I am posting for future rearchers who may have small gestational sac and normal CRL and heartbeat. I didn't find too much when I was looking.
I am 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow. About two weeks ago I went in for an ultrasound to look for heartbeat (HB). Fortunately there was a strong heartbeat and the baby measured appropriately CRL. HOWEVER, I was told that my gestational sac (GS) was too small and the RE wanted me to come back the next week. He didn't measure the GS. On the 2nd improvement there was some improvement. This time I made him measure the sac it was only 2 mm bigger than the CRL. This was not good as per my research, howver, the CRL was appropriate and strong HB.
So all the research I found says there should be a difference of at least 5mm between the CRL and GS. If it is under 5 mm...the reasearch indicated that there was 80% chance of miscarriage. Research was based on normal HB but didn't say anything about normal CRL. If the GS was greater than 5mm but less than 8mm you miscarriage rate is about 50%.
I also found other girls who'd posted similar situations and about half the time the pregnancy continued and the half the time it was poor fetal outcome.
I did find that drinking water was recommened and was told it couldn't hurt by professionals. I have to admit that I hadn't been drinking a lot of water, so I bumped it up to at least 64oz a day, hoping that would help. I don't know if it did or not.
So on the the third ultrasound (yesterday) I went in and somehow the GS had at least tripled or quadrupled in size. It was big and nice and round and there was plenty of fluid in it. My RE seemed amazed and was very pleased and yesterday I officially graduated from the infertility clinic. Oh I forgot to mention on the 2nd visit he had me taking more progesterone mid day in addition to the 200mg vag suppositories in the AM and PM.
So here's what I learned if you anyone finds themselves in the same boat....this happens more often in normal fetus vs one with abnormalities, and about in just under 2% of pregnancies. And no, it's not great if the ratio is less than 5mm, but not 100% ended in miscarriage. I think drinking water helped and maybe even the additional dose of progesterone midday (Crinone 8%). And all you can do is sit back and wait until your next ultrasound , say a lot of prayers in the mean time, and keep your fingers crossed that the pregnancy continues because it might -- once again there is always hope.
To be honest if the CRL and/or the HB was not normal, I don't think this pregnancy would have continued.
Hopefully this will help any future researcher.
