I'm due july 4th...during the summer, my step son stays with us. My husband usually has to drive around 16-18 hours round trip to get him and bring him home to us. The soonest he can pick him up would be the 20th, two weeks before my due date. I don't want to tell him he can't go, we have very limited time with his son as is, but I am nervous about him being gone for that duration of time. My youngest is 10, so it's been awhile since I've done this, but my last two labora were very quick. My daughter was less than 5 hours, and my son, less than 3 hours, start to finish. Any advice or suggestions? My step sons mom will not drive him to us, doesn't even meet halfway and no other form of transportation is an option :(

If there are no other family members to ask or other means of transportation than you just have to wait it out and pray for the best.
You may have already delivered or you may not even be contracting (showing signs of labor) at that time.

Why is not other transportation an option? Seems like putting him on a plane would be an easy solution.

Where they live in VA, there aren't any airports, they would have to travel to TN, and the airport there doesn't have flights that come straight through so my step son would have to transfer flights...if this was even an option. But there's no way his mom would ever let him fly, and even if she was willing, he would FREAK out. I've looked into trains as well, the cost is ridiculous, and again, his mom isn't about to let him travel alone.

You can't try and talk her into meeting halfway just this one time. Its not like she will be doing it every time. That's really selfish of her especially if she has a way and the time to do it. She could at least offer to drive him out to y'all or meet halfway every blue moon. But can you ask another family member to drive out and get him? Or can your step son come like now until the time you were going to bring him back? Or come sometime sooner than the originally planned date? Oh I'm due July 4th as well.
