cannot walk after delivery - help

Dear Co-Mums and Mums-to-be,

I hope especially the mums who have already kids might be able to help me or can give me some reassurance this will get better soon.

After having delivered my lovely daughter vaginally yesterday, I felt on top of the world. :) Everything was perfect. My baby girl fortunately still is.

But when I woke up this morning, my symphysis was in so much pain that I cannot walk anymore. I literally cannot move my feet because of the pain connected with the movement. I can move them around by my handy though. Unlike yesterday I can only move in a wheelchair and it is getting harder to get in and out of there by the hour.

I had a xray done. Doctors say the symphysis is not ruptured. There's nothing I can do but wait.

Anybody has been through something like this?  How long does it last?  When did you experience any first improvements? Did you do anything that helped you along the process?

Please help. I'm very thankful for any ideas.

It took me 2 weeks to be 100% but each day it got a little better. I had no problems again until the end ofmy next 2 pregnancies. I had llots of pubis pain the last 2 months. Of course I'm 40 so it could be age not just previous injury related. It will go away!

Thanks for your comments.
I did have an epidural, but kcwayman is right, this is something different. And during the pda and the first day after I could walk just fine.
It's not that i cannot walk because I cant feel my legs. It's more that they deny their job because my  body "knows" that tensing that muscle would hurt too much in the symphysis.
This is sooo frustrating. Doctors said it could take weeks until it gets better. :-(

This happened with my second baby and once the swelling went down a couple of days after delivery I was able to walk.
