In so many posts, you guys are saying that you tore during delivery. Are you sure that you tore or were you given an episitomy?

I delivered my first Friday evening and I didn't tear or had an episiotomy.  The nurse and doctor would  lubricate me in between pushing as well as massage the inside of my vagina while I was pushing to help prevent me from tearing.

I had a nasty tear with my first- hubbie watched and said it looked like raw roast beef...ewwww! But after a week on the donut seat, I was good and I never tore again for the next 3 babies. We'll see about this one, but with my last, delivery was a breeze and I wasnt even sore after.

My dr with my first gav me episitomy, cause she thought baby was bigger then she was & I was gonna tear. She was only 7 Ib 1 oz, they were disolving stitches & they itched like crazy & I developed a painful hemrriod after. So with this baby due in Jan I told my dr I would rather tear on my own then b cut.

My doctor says the same thing.. it's impossible to guess how much someone would tear. I had a horrible tear that requires a ton of stitches to repair.

My doctor cut insted of lettung me tear. Thank god. Ill take the extra time healing. I know so many friends stories of how doctors let them tear. I thinl they have no idea if the tears going to be big or small. I know two women who's doctor pet them tear and it tore nasty all the way back. It was harder to sew for them.

I have delivered three and had really bad tear with the first... never again! From that point I've had episitomys.. Maybe because I have such big babies.

Supposedly tears heal better than cuts so a lot of doctors will let you tear if they think the tear won't be too bad. I had a tiny tear with first (just needed three stitches). My second baby my doctor was getting ready to give me an episitomy but my son decided he had to come right then and there and she didn't have time so again i tore. My third I got an episitomy but my daughter was bigger than we expected so even with the episitomy i tore some more.

I'm sure I had a tear ...my doctor commented that it was small one as she was sewing it up....with 4 kids that's the only one I had

My experience is totally different. My doctor says he would much rather give a cut than let me tear...
