✮ coffee drinkers only, please! ✮

I've only had ONE cup of coffee since I found out I was pregnant, and that says A LOT for me!!

my native american (cherokee) grandma used to give me black coffee when I was little, who knows why.. doesn't matter, but I've been hooked ever since. I'd only drink maybe 16 oz. a day, IF that, whether it was freezing cold or steaming hot outside, so it wasn't an unhealthy amount or anything.

anyways!!! I had a huge craving for it today, and I had a 16 oz. cup of Starbucks House Blend (Medium).. it wasn't even a full 16 oz. cup, maybe 3/4 full, but I spoke with a friend who has a cup a day which was OK'ed by her midwives. I haven't asked my OB about it, but again.. I won't be drinking it every single day. I was just craving it today.

my question is, for my coffee drinking mommies, how often & how much coffee do you drink? I'm totally out of decaf, which won't be hard to purchase, but I use the k-cups for my Keurig.. certain brand you recommend maybe?
I just want opinions, again.. from a coffee drinker, I don't need any drama or negative comments!!! lol
I know there are some people who are TOTALLY against caffeine during pregnancy, but that's just an opinion I don't want/need to hear right now. I know my baby boy is just fine, just something that came up today!

thank you!!!! (((: ❤

I drink it. Not everyday but quite a bit. I'm a coffee driver. My sister drank it every single day while pregnant. I try to stay under 200-300mL of caffeine a day. You will hear both sides of this all day long. I do sometimes order a decaf whatever I'm craving from Starbucks bc I'll start feeling guilty.

Just as long as you drank water with it as well I wouldn't worry about it. My guilty pleasure is mocha frappés and I just increase my water in take that day. I had a lot of caffeine with my daughter as well never decaf and things are fine.

As long as its regular coffee, it still has caffeine in it no matter what the brand is. I was never a daily coffee drinker, just once a week kind of thing. Im almost 23 weeks and ive had exactly 4-5 cups of coffee since finding out i was pregnant. I definitely try to stay away from it but i personally think its fine to have it once in a while when youre craving it. As long as its not a daily consumption.

wonderful!!! yeah, I know some people are totally against caffeine, period, BUT that's a little extreme in my opinion.. JUST my opinion!!! lol

I do drink a lot of water, so I feel assure my body will get the least bit of kick from it, aside from the fact I've drank it all my life & my system is totally used to it. of course I've read that it crosses the placenta though, and I didn't want to overdo it with my baby boy! 16 oz. was usually my max amount before pregnancy anyway, so I know I'll never drink more than that, just because that's my happy place with it! lol

I LOOOOOOVE the caramel frappes from mcdonalds too, which I've had one during pregnancy.. forgot about that, but I really just wanted to hear from other coffee drinking mommies!! thank ya'll so much!!! (((:

I love coffee!!! I'm 21 weeks and have been drinking coffee almost the entire time. I didn't like it when I had bad morning sickness. I have a cup from my keurig maybe every other day or every two days. I drank coffee everyday with my son and he likes coffee now. I try not to let him over due it with the caffeine but most doctors will tell you its no worse than a soda. I say enjoy your coffee honey.

& you're right, I wasn't too worried about the brand in particular, just wanted to emphasize that in case anyone happened to know the caffeine content, which I believe to be a LITTLE over 200mg.

I won't be drinking it every day, simply because even though I USED to be able to drink it when it was 100 outside, these hormones don't allow me to do that right now lol - it was just a craving today.. and I'm totally satisfied now! ((:

Don't stress. I know lots of people who didn't give up coffee and their kids are fine. I've heard everything from birth defects to babies going thru withdrawal on the internet. But personally, I know no bad stories. It's a little different if you are having a pot of coffee a day ;)

I would literally cry for it if I smelled it, and I'm completely healthy!! lol gosh, I love it!! I'm sure my babies will enjoy it too.. that makes me feel a lot better!!! I'll definitely enjoy a cup every now & then for sure! (((:

@ross1112: me too!! I'm currently using "Cold Stone - Sweet Cream" flavor!!

@coashsymons: thank you!!! my parents say it's just fine too, I know sometimes I worry over small stuff, but I just don't see the small amount that I have as being a problem at all! & you're right, a pot a day would be a different story!!! lol!! thank you again, so much!!!!! ((:

I drink about one and two cups and everything is fine. I'm 34 weeks now. Sometimes I even make me a nice latte with a double shot of espresso. You will be just fine. In my culture we drink a lot of coffee and I never heard anyone having any problems because of it.

Ive had coffee since around 20 weeks nothing major maybe 2 a week and its only instant coffee so its not strong im now full term. If you want one go for it theres alot worse things u could be putting in your body than a small coffee :)

First of all, I heard recently that in the early to mid 1900s, there were parenting books that recommended giving your child black coffee around 6 months old, so your grandmother wasn't wrong for her generation!

Also, I believe a Grande from Starbucks is over 200mg, but under 300mg.  I've been having a single shot in whatever I get (75mg) because it tends to be more exact than trying to figure it out by ounces (but I'm also just really neurotic).  I've been getting solo venti cinnamon dolce lattes from Starbucks or a decaf large iced coffee with a turbo shot and mint mocha chip flavor from Dunkin.  Before I found out I was pregnant, I was drinking two large iced coffees from Dunkin every day, so quitting cold turkey was NOT in the cards for me, lol.

As for brands, I'm pretty sure Starbucks makes decaf K cups.  I've been getting Peet's decaf house blend for myself, but we have a drip coffee brewer.

ahhh, thank ya'll sooo soooo much!!!

I just KNEW I was going to get some bashing about this lol, BUT I'm so glad so many of you understand.. and you're right, I could be doing much worse things!!! so many people thought it was weird for me to have coffee as such a young age, but it's never been a big deal for us!! lol

I really appreciate the info., I'll still probably get some decaf k cups, but I feel safe knowing a cup of coffee won't harm me or my baby boy!!! (((:

In all honesty. ..I drink two small mugs a day. I feel no shame. I have a 5 year old and an 11 month old...and am 7weeks along with baby number 3. I need it...especially since my youngest still doesn't sleep all night-due to chronic ear infections.

Absolutely NO bashing from me. My mother in law brings me a mocha frapp from Starbucks sometimes...

thank you!! I have no shame either! lol & I can't say that anyone should blame you.. I felt like I needed it today, so badly! congrats on baby #3!! I hope your youngest gets better soon.. I still get awful ear infections every now & then too. I had tubes when I was little, one came out, so they just took the other one out.. it's so frustrating! "/

I've actually read that drinking decaf is more harmful than regular caffine becuase of the chemicals they use to remove the caffine doesn't completely rinse off. Im a coffee drinker and I gave up caffine completely until about 10 weeks then I started drinking it again I drink about a 8-12 oz cup a day in the morning. I know women who drink it their entire pregnancy and just find as long as its in moderation.  200mg or under.

It's true about decaf for the most part, actually.  There is a chemical free way to decaffeinate coffee called reverse osmosis, but it's way more expensive than chemical treatment, so most companies don't bother.

Sweetie, I'm a coffee addict, and I admit to drinking 1-2 cups every day. That's a step down from 1-2 pots. Lol I'm 38 weeks along, and me and baby both are fine! And I don't drink decaf.

My mom's a huge coffee drinker I'm sure she went way over the recommended limit and plus we live right behind a sonic so she would get 2 route 44 cups of coke also and she had 3 perfectly healthy babies.
