* when & where do I start..???! *

okay, so I'll be 15 weeks this Friday, 25 ftm, and I'm at that point where I'm starting to wonder when is the best time to start getting the baby stuff, and what do I need to have by certain times?

I'm pretty sure I'll have at least one baby shower.. this will by my parent's first grand baby (I'm an only child now, my brother passed away back in 1996) so I'll be the only grand baby maker for them! needless to say, he/she may be a little spoiled, BUT I don't want to wait until the last minute for anything.. at least not the simple things. plus, I'm not ashamed to say I've always been independent, and *I* want to buy my baby plenty of stuff too.. but I don't even know what to put on the baby registry? do I include big stuff.. like bassinet, crib, etc. or just small stuff like clothes, bottles, wipes, etc.???

I'm NOT stressing, but I just keep telling myself, "okay, let's just make sure the baby is okay at THIS ultrasound.. then we'll start buying stuff.." I don't want to be that way.. I don't want to keep expecting our baby to not have a heart beat, but of course it's every woman's fear..

do I start stocking up on diapers now? wait until the 20 week mark? wipes, bassinet, onesies, etc.??
oh my, this stuff is coming up so much quicker than I expected!!! lol

thank all of you ladies, keep praying for us, we love you so much!!!! ((((: ❤

We haven't started yet bc we want to find out gender first and have lots of th he major things still from our son.

ahh, well that makes sense - we definitely want to know the gender before we buy the majority of the clothes too, and you're right.. I can add the diapers, wipes, soaps, lotion, and all that good stuff to the registry!!

I guess I'm just super excited to start buying stuff too!! ..but I hate to get my hopes up.. I've just got to be more positive!!

Our son's nursery was done by the time I hit my second trimester. I was so excited and we didn't find out the gender with him.

I am in the same boat as you this is my 3rd child though and even though I have stuff left from the older kids some things need to be replaced for loaning them out and people not taking care of things very well. But I am going to wait to buy clothing until the we find the gender out. I would put what ever strikes your fancy on your registry some people like to go in on a gift together and buy the bigger items just a thought. As for diapers is your sig other going to have a diaper party that's a good way for the guys to celebrate the baby and you get diapers too they bring a case or bag and hang out and do guy things we had every one at my shower that brought wipes got a door prize gives people an incentive to bring wipes. Clothes I wouldn't worry about clothes to much until your shower you will probably get a lot of those then. Just a thought good luck and congrats

Think positively....your already in your 2nd trimester!!! Yes, you should stock up on diapers.... dont buy a WHOLE lot of newborn size because baby may not be in them for that long... maybe a few packs.. but do buy size 1-3.... I wouldnt buy any bigger because they you may have them around for a while and not have enough space... I bought all my big stuff- crib, dresser, changing table, the mattress, swing, and bedding.... and got a lot of clothes, the bouncer, an activity gym, diapers, etc. (The small stuff at my baby shower)... if you are finding out the sex or already know it (I dont remember if you wanted it to be a surprise or if you've found out-- I follow a lot of mommies-- lol), make sure to get a car seat and stroller as well... I would put a bumbo, boppy, clothes, diapers, wipes, soaps, lotions, any other toiletries, blankets, activity gym, etc. whatever else you want... if your parents want to contribute to a larger item and spoil yiur baby make sure you discuss it so you know what they will get you and you can cross it off the list... my MIL bought us our car seat and I had a discussion with her about it before my baby shower (baby shower is on Sunday!! Soo excited!)  and she was happy to buy it for us... I'm sure she will buy her granddaughter more stuff too but she lives in California and we live in AZ so it will probably be right after she is born

@abiandgabi_mom: thank you so much! he was almost 4, I was 7.. it was hard being an only child sometimes, but he's made me a strong woman!!
& what exactly is a diaper shower???

@November2baby: thank you so much!!! I'm definitely not going to go overboard with the clothes b/c I have a feeling my parents are going to do enough of that for me!! lol but this being my first.. I'm sure I'll buy quite enough.. thank you again for your response! I'm the MOST thankful person on here!! lol

As far as bottles go though... your baby may not like the bottles you choose and you won't be able to use them... hold off until baby is born for those...I personally dont have any clothes on my registry though... I have learned people buy whatever clothes they think are cute and as far as clothes go dont go off the registry, so I didn't bother this time around... babies r us has a list of things you "need" but keep in mind you dont NEED everything on there

excuse my naiveness lol BUT I helped raise my brother & my Godsister from the time she was 4 months old.. but she's 11 now:

size 1-3 diapers, that goes by weight right?

I have already SORT of decided on an infant and car seat.. I'm leaning towards the EvenFlo brand - it's affordable & has a LOT of great reviews. I'll definitely make them aware of the things I'm sure of before or if they decide to purchase any of those for us. & THANK YOU for that list!!!! I'll definitely go ahead & write those down on my list of things we can go ahead & purchase!!!
I know you're super excited for your shower, I already can't wait!!!

& you're right, 2nd trimester means a lot.. I need to go ahead & get a few things. it'll make me feel a lot better!!! ((:

that sounds like a good plan for us too!! I also wanted to start around 10 weeks, but I chose to AT LEAST wait until our most recent ultrasound which was at 13w6d.. it's safe to say I'm super anxious at this point now though & I at least wanted to have some of the basics.. including storage containers & all that good stuff!! thank you so much for your response! every single one helps this mommy out!! I am 24wks and already have a stroller, carseat, some clothes, diapers, wipes and a few little items for me like breast pads, nipple cream and tucks pads. I put a crib and portable bassinet on my registry mainly as references since my friends tend to want themes and color schemes...I have been buying things here and there since I was 4wks. My MIL also runs a resale shop so I am always snooping through her stuff when she comes with a new truck load of stuff.

Wait it out! At least until 25-30 weeks that way may know the gender. People may give u things too. I saved money and ststted buying after the showers I had.. I saved a lot if money. Things I would have bought everyone else got for me. I used the money I saved and got the crib, tub, breast pump, and travel system. Other then that I was covered with clothes wipes and clothes blanets.

ahhh, so it sounds like the carseat, stroller, diapers & wipes are definitely a good place to start then.. and of course some clothes once we find out the gender!! lol

I've seen a lot about these breast pads.. are these also needed if I don't plan on breastfeeding? I assume they may leak for a little while, but I wasn't sure??

that's true, I do have a lot of family.. and they've had a LOT of babies lol so WHO KNOWS what I may end up getting.. we'll hopefully either find out the gender next week (if the specialist I see will hint at it) OR my next OB appointment is on the 22nd & I'll be 17w6d.. sooo anxious!! (((:

I understand completely what u mean about the paranoia. I had a bad experience and that is partly why I wait until later in the pregnancy to buy anything. Good luck honey enjoy this time.

Lol yes.. it all goes by weight.... my daughter was in size 2 the longest... there was another mom who posted approximately how many diapers with the sizes... I found another forum where babies r us suggests the amount. .. roughly speaking (individual results vary.. lol)

and a diaper shower is instead of a baby shower just asking for w bunch of diapers... most moms do a diaper raffle though (a raffle where the entry fee is a bag of diapers and they get a prize-- different than the other prizes)... ive also heard of moms doing the raffle with baby books

Diaper showers are awesome for guys though... they can have a bunch of their 'guys' over drink beer and watch the game and their 'guys' brings a pack of diapers. .. and the woman still gets her baby shower :)

Newborn size/size 1- 320
Size 2- 870
size 3-870
size 4- 728

(I dont agree with the nb/size 1 numbers though.. but I had a small baby)

If your not planning on BFing you dont need breast pads... at the hospital they will ask you if you plan on BFing... if you say no they usually give you a shot to prevent your milk from coming in... if not, you can take anything with sudafed products to dry it up faster... advil cold and sinus dried it all up for me (I got sick when my daughter was 4 months old and I had to make a choice)

ohh okay!!!! well, that makes SO much more sense!!! lol geez..

& wow, I've been to a few showers, and I've never heard of the diaper raffle?! that is a pure GENIUS idea!!!! my mama & the preacher's wife will more than likely be the 2 people to do the baby shower for me, so I'll absolutely bring that up!! if every woman from church brings a pack of diapers.. WOW! that can't go wrong!! lol thank you SOOO much!!

I need to bring that up to my fiancé too.. he doesn't have too many guy friends, as well as I don't have too many friends either, but who knows?! any reason to drink beer right!? lol I'm thinking, MAYBE I'll have a small baby too.. I know our sizes don't really matter, but I was only 6lb10oz not sure of my fiancé, but I'm very petite.. I definitely won't buy too many big sizes at all!!

this is all so helpful, thank you so much!!!
OH, and about the breast pads.. will I need those if I don't plan on breastfeeding? I know they may leak, hurt, etc. but will it be enough for me to have to wear those pads??

You will probably leak a bit until you dry up so a small box would be handy just in case. I would suggest maybe consider buying 1 small bottle of a few different brands that way you have a variety to try out and see what you and baby prefer.
