They do give you a numbing shot... Like novacane when they stitch you up. Primrose oil and perineal massage should be started like a month before edd. Kegels help through out the whole pregnancy.... I don't think they really help you to not tear though. Good luck... It's all worth it once you've got your baby in your arms!

Do they numb you for stitching even if you didn't take epidural or any meds for delivery? I sure hope so! And when exactly do you apply coconut oil? After water breaks, when contractions start, just before labour or whenever I do kegels.. ? Sorry, totally clueless here!!thanks!

I tore with my second, once she was out I was so numb down there they stitched me up without any extra numbing meds. It felt like a finger touching me not a needle going through layers to stitch me up.

I ripped & had to get cut my first 2 times. Recovery was awful. I deliver my third Monday and I'm terrified tha same thing will happen again. I had 72 stiches tha 2nd time.inside and out. Everybody is different but let me just say tha sh*t was AWFUL. So much blood. Had to get a transfusion. Not tryna scare you but sugar coating won't help. He was stich in me up for like 30 minutes no lie

Try Evening Primrose Oil it's supposed to help with tearing during labor, you'll have to insert it.

Dont worry about tearing. You'll have so much adrenaline at that point you wont feel it. Your mind will take over. It's amazing what our bodies can do:)

On a side note you can ask your doctor/midwife to put oil on your vagina. This may help. I only tore a little bit and my baby's shoulder's were stuck for a moment.

I tore, but didn't feel a thing! I also had no medication or epidural. Don't worry about it! Vaginas are pretty flexible and heal quickly!

I didn't rip with my first he was 7 lbs 10 oz. Listen and do exactly what your Dr. or midwife says. Push when she says Push and don't when she says don't. Do your kegal exercises starting now if you haven't already!! Also keep your vaginal area very moisturized with coconut oil or whatever you regularly use. Try not be nervous it will all work out! :)

I had a 6 pound 11 oz baby and I'm a small frame person. had the same fear and yup ripped front to back. Would have rather ripped though than have an episiotomy. :( I listened to what my doctor said still ripped bad. If you take veg oil or coconut oil and massage and stretch and keep doing it before you go into labor u will have less chance of ripping. But it all depends on how big baby is and how much your body can take.

Ive been told that most women tare because they don't listen to the midwifes instructions when the baby is coming. They push instead of pant for example. I've been told to listen carefully to every instruction and you should be fine xx
