5 week U/S only shows sac

I just had a transvaginal ultrasound and it only showed us a sac.  There was no evidence of an embryo.  I just went through IVF and genetic testing.  The clinic told me the embryo was chromosomally  normal before we did the frozen transfer.  Could this still be blighted ovum?  I figured it couldn't because we tested all 23 chromosomes and it showed them all to be normal. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for all your comments.  My husband and I are done with this process.  We have been through 3 cycles now all with PGD testing because of my pregnancy last year.  I have great egg reserve but the meds can't seem to stimulate the eggs to divide.  We have retrieved upwards of 50 eggs over the 3 cycles and only 16 have been mature.  Of those only 7 made it to day 5 and only 2 were genetically normal.  I feel like I have wasted a year of my life and at 42 a year I could ill afford to lose.  Hopefully you guys will have better luck and success.  Thanks for your comments.

Having nothing genetically wrong does not guarantee that all the things that have to grow and develop in a baby will do so perfectly.  At some points in pregnancy, the embryo is putting on a million cells a minute or a mind-boggling amount like that.  If there is one miss or one error, the embryo will need it sooner or later and will stop developing.  Genetically perfect does not mean the complicated process of an embryo developing is guaranteed.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, and for your loss last year.  Miscarriage is so sad, and should happen to nobody.

They tested me every 2 days for a week.  HCG went up very slowly to about 1000.  Today I did another blood test and i had dropped to 840's.  So I'm assuming its all over.  But I'm just baffled as to why.  I have an 8 year old daughter  and I got pregnant last year with a baby with Trisomy 13.  Even with his chromosome issues he still implanted and grew til about 5 1/2 months.  He had a heart defect cause by the trisomy and at that point his heart stopped.  I guess I'm just surprised this one didn't go further especially since it was supposed to be healthy.

Sometimes embryos begin and then stop for reasons of their own, it has nothing to do with the chromosomes.  But at five weeks, it might only show a sac.  What have your hSG counts been?  Are they doing them every couple of days?
