So much wrong information on here provided by a bunch of non-degree physicians..Lol. Please refer to your doctor on this, an abnormal pap does not mean you have a std, hpv or cancer...But should prompt further confirmatory testing. Please do not worry yourself, talk to your doctor about the next steps to take, which may have to wait until you give birth.

Also, other infections can cause and abnormal pap like irritation, yeast infection, bacterial infection (bv) and sometimes mishandling of the smear can cause it, also using yeast infection cream or having sex before the pap smear can also cause false results. A pap smear is a precaution to make sure u dont have cancer but it is not a diagnosis...I'm going through this same crap and I'm pissed I've had three normal paps in a years time and as soon as I'm pregnant I get a slightly abnormal pap out of nowhere which my Dr has told me not to worry about and she will see my again next year for my regular pap exam. But I've also had a repeat yeast infection that none of there test picked up but when they listen to me opp yeah u do have one. Stupid test how accurate can they be! Well jezz if it's not something to worry about I just wish she wouldnt have freaking mentioned it. Because everyday i touture myself thinking about it.

To the first woman abnormal paps do NOT come from STDs so don't give people false information if your not 100% positive ....yes hpv is an std but jy st bc you got an abnormal pap does not mean its an std ...I had an abnormal pap and it is dysplagia and I've never had hpv its rare but it does happen ....so don't freak out sometimes your paps can come up abnormal and next time fine....if you do have something like I have dysplagia he said being pregnant can be a good thing bc sometimes it can wipe it out bc once you pass the placenta after babys born it can clean you like a dnc so they'll test you again after baby and see how your doing then if after babys born you still have abnormal they will figure out why and what it is ....good luck but don't freak out till you know for sure why its abnormal could just be a growth that madetit abnormal ....

To all the girls that said hpv is normal im sorry but hpv is an std !!!!!! I know this because ive had it in the past i got it from my past marriage and its transmitted by sleeping around with different people wich my ex husband was doing and im no longer with him, so hpv is not normal at all its an std that left untreated or as time passes turns into cervical cancer luckily my doc detected it on time i did all the steps to see if my cervix had any cancerous cells and it didn't, they had to take a little sample of my cervix test it and it did not have cancer so after that they have to freeze ur cervix to make sure no cancer cells develop so i would suggest askin more ???? To ur doc and get more information i dont think leaving it untreated until ur baby is born is the best thing good luck

I had a couple abnormal paps before but only while pregnant.with my second my ob wanted to do a colposcopy but once she got in there there wasn't even anything to take a sample of.... it hasn't happened since and that was 5 years ago. My ob told me it's probably from hormones

HPV is an STD. The most common one in the US actually. Men are carriers and it only affects women. So yes it is sexually transmitted but it may not show up on a pap for years after contracting it.

I agree with the others, an abnormal pap does not necessarily mean you have a cancer or an std. Usually it will x-ray itself in its own. I think I read that during pregnancy our bodies have a weaker immune system, therefore, your body may not be fighting off what it used too.. like hpv. I would not worry.

I also had hpv which is very common. The body usually clears it on it's own

Pregnancy will not cause this. It could be hpv. I would not be too worried until I talked to my Dr. I have had many abnormal paps because I have pre cancerous cells due to HPV. It will not affect the baby.

Or if you have cervical cancer. Not trying to scare you but those are the oy things that change the cells in your cervix.

The only things that cause abnormal paps are STDs. Your hormones will not cause the cells in your cervix to change
