I have only had the epidural twice and loved it.  No issues while I was getting it or after effects.  Personally I can't speak for the IV meds but my cousin has had both and HATED the IV meds, she said they made her feel drunk and totally out of it and she will never get them again.  It sounds like the same meds affect everyone differently so you may not have any issues with the IV meds, I will not get it just in case it affects me the same way it did her, I do not want to feel out of it when giving birth or trying to hold my baby.

I had both the 1st two only epidural n loved it next I tried I've medicine n hated it. It made mY heart beat fast I started sweating my eyes started to roll back I could not talk or move. It was like I was high on something I thought I was gonna die n I still felt the contractions awful

I had both when i delivered my son. I was thankful for the stadol! It eased the pain. I went to sleep. Later i had the epidural. It was NICE! Still feel the pressure, but the pain is mostly gone. I am going to take whatever they give me. My son came out fine. He wasn't drugged up or anything.

I've had both... I had the epidural with my first and iv meds with my second. I wish I could have gotten the epidural with my second as I hated the iv meds. They gave me stadol and I literally fell asleep between contractions. It completely sucked.
