There is a post similar to this on the 18-24 forum and some chick is going nuts over the opinions lol...
But anyway lunch meat is OK to eat if you know where it came from and know its fresh and clean they only say avoid or cook it because of the listeria which is also on produce as well.
If you a worry wart like me then fry it up. . I like it fried rather then just microwaved. :)
If you eat lunch meat heat it up until it steams. You could get listeriosis (not sure I spelled that correct) if you don't.
If you're super worried you can heat it up and kill the bacteria, then blast it in the freezer to get it back to the temp you like. But again its rare to catch, everyone is at risk, not just pregnant women (although it causes more complications for pregnant women than if you aren't pregnant) and moderation is key. Enjoy your ham sandwich!
I'm pregnant with baby #5 and with my first 4 I never new of this and ate lunchmeat sandwiches all the time all my babies were healthy
I've never warmed up my deli meat. I think it tastes gross. It's very rare to catch listeria. It's a threat to anyone. ..so if you're really worried about it..you should be heating if up whether you're pregnant or not. Anyone can get the bacteria

Depends where the ham is from. I was advised not to buy ham from the deli where its been out on display for hours because it's most at risk of bacteria.
some say to heat it up, but I don't..
as long as it came from a clean place & it hasn't been sitting out.. I've eaten plenty of bologna, ham, and turkey slice sandwiches (the ones that come in the containers at walmart & stuff) & me and our baby boy are just fine.
of course as you said, moderation is key in my opinion. mainly because of the sodium (for the bologna in my case) - but I've only heated it up if I was in the mood for it.. or fried it. (((:
p.s. you'll get LOTS of opinions on this, but just talk to your OB about it! ((:
