Exactly what HopefulLady has explained. Doesnt matter how tall you are.
Yeah bigger hips, my friend 5'3'' was in labor for three hours and the pushing part took like 10 minutes. Then my best friend 5'8" was in labor for 30 hours and pushing for a lot longer than 10 minutes
My obg told me, it is important that 3 things hold true:
1) Passage - ( you need to be wide enough on your pelvis. Being tall is not the requirement, being wide enough is.)
2) Passenger - Even if you are wide enough or not, how big the baby is determines the ease with which it can come out.
3) external factors like, obstructions in the cervix( fibroids, placenta, etc) may hold up labour.
So with 3 factors and all permutations of these, labour time can vary a LOT in different women and also different births for the same woman!!
Haha haven't heard that one. I'm only 5'2" and I was only in active labor for an hour or two.
