Medela Calma bottles are what helped my baby switch from bottles to the breast again. I had complications in the first days and had to give her a bottle formula in the hospital. After those 2 days she did not want to go back to the breast for 3 months. Finally i tried the medela calma bottle. It is designed to make the baby work for the milk to come out, much like breastfeeding. She prefers this bottle now also over the first bottles she started off with (avent).
Thanks so much it's all helpful info!!
I did both from day 1 with my first 3 and plan on doing both with #4. Do what works best for you
Make sure u get a bottle that is similar as the nipple. It's harder for them to breastfeed and if they get an easy bottle they might not want to breastfeed
It depends on the baby, but if breastfeeding starts well, you want to introduce a bottle within the first 3 weeks.
I breastfeed my first and i waited too long to introduce a bottle and she never took one. Tried tons of nipples and bottles but she only wanted breast! She was a couple months old before we tried because i was scared of the same thing not taking breast after a bottle. Back fired for me!
I have to make sure that u establish breastfeeding first before introducing the bottle. It shouldn't take very long if baby latches on correctly. When I breastfed my son he latched on from the get go and within the first 5 days of bringing him home I had to supplement with formula cuz he wasn't going poop regularly and he was losing weight. It was drs orders and he took the bottle and breast without any problems. We eventually became exclusive with breastfeeding after 8 wks and all was well. Goodluck.
My daughter took both and if you use avent it has more of the form of a nipple so it's very similar for them.to breastfeeding. It'll just depend on the baby.
