Just found out i am PG

I have heard it's not good to diet while pregnant but I am so heavy already and am wondering if it is okay to try and lose a little. Is it better to try later on in pregnancy or would I be better to try now when I am just starting out.

I lost weight due to eating healthier! Just eat better balanced meals and you will lose weight without "dieting"

Thank you all for your suggestions and tips. It has been a real encouragement to me. Your post is really encouraging because that is the weight I am and it is terrifying to me to think of gaining lots more. Keep it up and I am going to shoot for a healthy plan also, and see what happens. Right about now I feel awful and so everything including walking looks abit overwhelming to me. Thanks again.

Your doc will lay out a weight / diet plan for you. Many women do lose weight in the first trimester due to nausea. Just eat healthy and drink lots of water.

You will lose weight by just eating healthy.  No need to eat 500 calories a day. Find out how many calories your body needs, if u are still first trimester don't any any extra calories. 2nd add 350 or so. Find out.

Im a nutritionist and I wouldn't bother with dieting. Just eat a healthy and balanced diet. Just cut out all the crap. When your pregnant you will be hungry and eating little and often works well. If most people just ate a healthy diet no one would need to diet. And you can have a healthy diet and still have yummy foods its just about finding what them healthy foods you like are. Theres lots of healthy food I cant stand but lots I love. I still enjoy a cake and some chocolate now and then...im not a rabbit...its just everything in moderation. Goodluck :)

I have been losing weight but it's because I have been eating healthy. This baby only like healthy food.

So I am 19 weeks and 4 days and have been maintaining a 10 pound lost. My doctor says it's ok because I started at 220 and if I continue to not gain weight,  then I would had lost like 20 ppunds.

she encourages me to eat healthy and exercise.  She is not worried because the baby is healthy and so am I.

I agree with these women. Dieting at any time is not good for you or baby, BUT changing your eating habits is fine. Eat more fruits and veggies and lean meat like chicken.  Just because you are pregnant does not mean you need to double your food portions or eat a lot of fatty foods. Like they said you don't need any extra calories in the first trimester and even later it's only a couple extra hundred calories a day. Drink lots of water and go for walks. If you didn't exercise a lot before it's not a good idea to start a rigorous workout routine but walking is great! Congratulations!

This is true, knufrio!  Also, call your doctor.  They are the ultimate authority on do or do not when pregnant.

Eat healthy and get exercise (even just walking). I ended up losing a little weight just from that. I'm starting to gain it back now, but basically I'm just healthier than I was.

Alkali13 depending on your weight 2000 may be way too much. For a woman who is average height and build 1500 a day is plenty

In the first trimester, you don't actually need extra calories.  Don't restrict what you are eating.  Go for quality over quantity and shoot for a normal 2000 calorie diet.

Depends on what your doc says and what your health problems are.
