My Baby Girl!!! Be the voice for your little ones. My birthing story.

As some of you know last Thursday I went to my regular dr appt and once again had high blood pressure. After a non stress test and lab results it was determined I had toxemia and would be induced. Thurs they started me off of cervadil to help me dialate. I was making progress but it was slow seeing I was starting from just 1 cm. Fri morning around 7 my dr came in and broke my water. This sped things up but not enough so I was started on pitocin. Eventually contractions became stronger and closer together getting is to 8 cm. At this time my baby and myself both got a fever so I was taken off of pitocin and this stalled everything. Finally on Sat morning drs got our fevers under control and were able to be on pitocin again. I pushed for 2 hrs and the dr had to cut me to deliver. Finally at 426 on Aug 2 she was born. My beautiful angel 7 lb 6 oz 19 3/4" long :) Soon after delivery we were taken to a postpartum room where we were told we would stay until being released Monday morning. This is when our nightmare began. I was already swollen from all of the fluids pumped into me and still had an iv in one arm so my husband was on baby duty. About 10 pm we were ready for some good sleep after a rough 3 days of labor. Soon our hospital room door had someone coming in at least every hour. I was continously being hooked to an iv and having blood drawn. I was so swollen no one could find my veins and I was turned into a human pin cushion. My nurse was the worst that night was the worst and just kept telling me I am very sick. I kicked everyone out and asked for the charhe nurse around 3am. It wad finally explained to me I was at the beginning stages of sepsis and my baby girl had the infection as well. That morning they moved me back to a l&d room where I could receive better care and my baby girl was taken to nicu. We asked for prayers all around!! We both have been through a lot. I am better and will be released this morning but the feelings are bittersweet because my baby will still be here. She has been hooked to monitors and iv. She wasnt eating on her own but yesterday she was able to take from the bottle and is loving her milk!! They have also been monitoring her crp levels which are also going down, thank God!! My baby girl is getting better. She however has to stay for the full 7 days of treatment.

So please ladies when something isnt right speak up!! Be the voice for my baby. As I learned more about the situation I learned there were many mistakes, like allowing my water to be broke for over 30 hrs before she was born, that had better choices been made my baby girl and I would never had the infection and be home today.

Pitocin sounds like the culprit here...a very sad side effect of this drug is the effects it has on the baby. When you reacted badly first time around they should have tried something else instead of giving it to you again. Pitocin always affects the baby's lungs. Some more than others unfortunately and can be life threatening.
