pooping while giving birth?

is it true that with all the pressure and pushing, women poop during vaginal delivery?
is it common?  can it be prevented?  what to do when it happens?

I was induced and they say not to eat after midnight I know its for safety but I believe that helps but they gave me an enema when I arrived at the hospital. Hopefully I didn't poo but if I did either of the last 2 times nobody said a word

Honestly dont worry about doing it. The nurses have seen it all and everything in between. I experienced the feeling of the pressure of the babys head and i thought i was going to poop but it was just crazy pressure. Its silly to think about but it might not even happen

No worries nobody will even aew your poop the nurses are very cueteous and will wipe it as soon as it happens or in other cases they will have a bag or pad and immediately toss it out you wont even notice

I convinced myself with my first that I had pooed giving birth and kept apologising lol. They kept trying to tell me that I hadn't but I was absolutely convinced lol, it really does feel like that is what you are doing so you just have to go with it, they've seen it all before so they're not going to be bothered anyway!

Yes it does happen and is common it happened to me with my first and being only 19 at the time I was horrified since my son's father was in the room and my mother was recording the birth .... I smelled up the room I guess ... I tried to make sure I went before I delivered since I was induced but I guess you can't plan for these things all in all its not my best moment but it's pushed out of your mind with everything else that's going on .. I don't even recall if I Did it with my second child

I did with both my kids. I wouldn't of known if my husband wouldn't of told me anything. I didn't notice it and wasn't even thinking about that at all. It's very common and like the other ladies said the nurses have already seen it all and it isn't anything new. Good luck and congrats!!

I did with my first and second. I take a little castor oil to clean my self out if I am going in for induction and if no induction I self induce with castor oil so out of five births I only pooped a smidge with two. And I never had them check my bum for a tear.

Yes out of the whole giving birth thing,  the pooping is the bit I'm dreading  lol. Also after you get placenta out they stick a finger up your bum to check your perineum isnt split. Nevermind I'm sure its worth it when you hold your baby. I'm planning a water birth. so I'm told they have a net to scoop out lol I'm thinking of playing a joke on midwife with a choc bar

I did with my youngest. I never would have known if my husband hadn't told me a year later.  I didn't feel a thing and apparently the nurses just cleaned it up and carried on like nothing happened.  It's very common. I've had three babies and have gotten to the point that nothing about labor embarrasses me anymore.  The doctors and nurses see everything so I'm sure not much bothers or surprises them.

I pooped with my first son. Which when i went into the hospital they were able to tell that i hadnt had a bowel movement in a few days. As i had contractions for 48 hours at home. Wasnt dialiating an there was no medical need to admit me. So when i got there i was 8cm and hadnt had one. So when they check they were able to tell so when i started pushing they just told me to relax and just let it happen as everything falls into a red sanitation bag. I didnt even notice until after when i had double check with the nurse. She said most of the time you dont notice an you keep going so they dont make any deal of it.

When you have to push its going to feel like you have to poop anyways so if it does happen you won't know if you did or not and yes, i doubt they tell you if you do, their ONLY concern is for you and the baby lol they see poop and vagina all the time

My Dr told me I can take a fleet enema before delivery if I'm really that concerned...but I was told it's very common and yeah they're all used to it. My obgyn told me she won't tell you if you poop...they clean it all up and never let on

Your body naturally gets diarehea to clean you out before delivery but it does still happen.  There's nothing you can or should do to prevent it.  They won't give you anything to constipated because TRUST me, after delivery you do NOT want to be constipated.

Nurses just clean you up. You are more embarrassed than they care. Again nobody is judging your "haircut", if you poop, your anything - they're just concerned about the baby and that everyone is healthy.

Sorry. I know I dread it too.  But it's just life :)

Yes its possible but it doesnt happen to every woman....when you're set up for delivery and ready to push i think they have a bag or something below your butt in case it happens lol thats what my husband told me...but it didnt happen to me and i dont think it can be prevented.i may be wrong tho

Yes, it's common but doesn't happen with every birth. Don't try to prevent it. There's not much you can do. It happens all the time and nurses/OBGYN's are used to seeing it. Likely, they'll clean you up and you won't even have any idea it ever happened. Besides, you'll have more important things on your mind. :)
