☆☆Non-Breastfeeding- NOT a question but venting☆☆

Hi ladies,  as the title says I'm not posting a question but more of personal opinion for those who choose not to breastfeed.  Yes it is none of my business how each decides to raise their child that is not what I'm doing, put down your weapons. I participate in the WIC program in my area and this is my third child but I don't remember them being soo on your throat about breastfeeding. I personally breastfeed for as much as I can normally a month but I stopped due to my breasts not supplying enough milk. I had big girls 9 lbs 2 oz and 8 lbs 9 oz and even though I was pumping as much as I could also it didn't seem like it was enough. The experience wasn't so bad with my second as it was with my first. :/  But my point is WIC has this rule now that they don't supply formula for the first month,  and if your having a hard time they'll send someone to your home to guide you. Wow! To me it just seems they're truly shoving this whole thing down mom's throat. To me it's just very unfair, I wouldn't liked to feel pressured as to formula or breastfeeding.  Yes, I am aware of all the benefits but can't society be more accepting with what we decided for our babies well being? Worry about the mother's who neglect their kids or worse. It just doesn't seem right to be judgemental for those who choose to formula feed. This may not apply to you but what you feel like if they pressured you into using cloth diapers because disposable diapers are soo bad for the environment? Anyways,  I just wanted to share because it truly bothered me... My best wishes to all. ;)

That almost sounds like harassment. Promoting is very different from pressuring. Once the parent understands the benefits and decides formula then just let mom be. A lot has changed since mine also, I even feel like a first timer sometimes lol. ;)

My wic office has been bad about this too. They asked me at my first app and i told them i did not know what i was going to do. So they let me talk with someone about it.. Well that was a mistake. After that a lady from there calls me like every two weeks trying to push it down my throat. I have ever told her two months ago that i decided not to breastfed,, do you think the calls stop.No they did not. She acts like i never told her that. And she is still on me bad about breastfeeding. I do not know how else to tell her no.. still i have told her a couple of times. I think it crazy. I do not know if she thinks i am going to change my mind or what. I do like that they promote breastfeeding but to me they have been crossing the line..

I'm in Sacramento. But it's great some of you have the option of getting your formula as soon as you deliver and your not frowned upon. I guess I'm not used to people putting so much pressure.  I plan to do both anyways but I'm just bothered that some mothers choose not to and people have the need to lecture them. It's each individual's choice. @TayyB2706 I would've fallen asleep with that video,  lol. :)

Yea I defiantly understand this post! Even though I plan on trying (key word trying) to breast feed exclusively for the first 3months (with my son he was breastfed and forula fed until about 6mos) I feel like every where I turn they are trying to push breastfeeding (even my husband). I feel like to each there own and every mom has a choice but I was also told at WIC that they do not supply formula during the 1st month and I am in CA .. But what I really think is the weirdest thing is how hospitals (at least in my area) are trying to promote breastfeeding with this skin to skin method during babys first hr of life .. I had to watch an hr long video of moms laying in their hospital beds bare chested with there babys basically licking all over them to find the breast to make their first feed. I guess to show what a babys natural instincts are. Everyone was fascinated but I honestly thought it was weird and would much rather to just hold my baby and guide her to the breast for her first feeding. But those are just my own personal thoughts.

I'm in California, maybe it does have something to do with states. I was in Texas with my first and they weren't so tough on breastfeeding.  Yes, I understand it's due to the health benefits but it's just not fair to other mom's who aren't comfortable with it. My MIL had 8 children and she only breastfed one of them for a couple of weeks.  And they're all grown and healthy- jerks but well. I respect each their choice but being a public assistance agency they shouldn't be soo demanding.

I think the reason they try to encourage breastfeeding is because it has health benefits for baby and mom that formula just can't offer. Hospitals and doctors are also doing more to encourage breastfeeding.

What state are you in. I just went to my last wic apt before baby comes and when asked was I gonna formula or breast feed i. said formula. breastfeeding just isn't for me tried it with my first and it wasn't my thing. But she never told me I had to wait a month before they would give me formula. She just explained to me that if I have my baby before my next appt they wouldn't be able to reschedule my appt so I would have to buy my own formula until my appointment. I do feel as tho everyone around me is trying to force me to breastfeed but I've made my choice and im sticking to it
