Pumping/Dumping

No judgements please, ladies! My husband and I plan to go out for dinner and a few drinks on Friday night. I am breast feeding my little girl and I don't want to do anything to harm her. I plan to pump as much as I can on Friday so that I have enough to feed her on Saturday while I'm "pumping & dumping." My question is - how long do I pump & dump for? I've looked it up online and read different things so I'd like some insight from any of you ladies that have done it. Will I have to throw away all of the milk I pump on Saturday?

Your not doing anything wrong hun.... at least your responsible enough to find out how to keep your baby safe after having a couple of drinks.

They are saying now that once the effects of alcohol wear off its no longer in your milk the same as your blood so you should be good the very next morning but the strips will ease your mind I'm sure.

And Mama we'd never judge you for that! You are certainly not the only one that wants to enjoy a nice drink I can promise you that.

Your body metabolizes about 1,drink per hour so after you stop drinking just pump and dump for a few hours and you should be good

Oh & that was if I actually drank enough to get a "buzz" she said once is enough if I just had one or two drinks. It doesn't affect your milk like you think. Have fun!

Yep, i breastfed my last for 18 months they aren't cheap, but to me well worth it since I had such a hard time pumping.

My lactation nurse told me to pump and dump twice after I was done drinking (and I was pumping every two hrs).

It actually disappears from your milk much faster then you would think. Do the strips! You might not even have to dump anything.

Go to walgreens or cvs and they sell strips to test your milk for alcohol, that way you dont end up throwing away perfectly good milk :)
