Sickle Cell

Ok so this is my first pregnancy and I just found out that my child's father has the trait and that one of his children actually has it. I want to know at what time am I to get, testes and I also do not know if I'm a carrier. I am 15weeks.

If both you are also a carrier,  there's something like a 1 in 4 chance that your child could have sickle cell every time you conceive together. The only thing you need to do right now is have your doctor request the necessary blood work.

My husband's oldest son from a previous relationship has sickle cell anemia, I assume hubby and ex were both carriers. I was tested with my first son and I'm not carrier, our son together doesn't have it. Let your doc know your partner is carrier and that you'd like to be tested.

My oldest daughter has the trait. We aren't sure who is the carrier, myself or my husband. Our other daughter didn't get it and now we are expecting again. When the doctor told us she has the trait he said she would be fine and as long as she doesn't have a child with someone who has the trait as well her children won't get the anemia. She has had no health problems and is 10 now.

Hey I have two cousins and an uncle with sickle cell. I know the effects it has so I wanted to see if I carried the trait so I got tested in my second trimester and I do. My bf doesn't carry the trait so it decreases the likelihood of my son having it. You can get tested when you want it is a simple blood test. Good luck hun and congrats on your pregnancy. If you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask.

I work with a guy who's wife has sickle cell, she had twins with someone else one of the twins got it the other one didn't. He had a son with his wife and their son has it. I wish you the best of luck!

You would have been tested at birth. My sis has it and they tested at birth. If both parents hv the trait then the child will have the anemia. More than likely you child will only hv the trait.
