Spotting and passing clots during pregnancy

I posted on here a couple of months ago and am still having the same problem.  Right after I found out I was pregnant two months ago, I started passing bright red blood, but just spotting.  It rarely ever makes it to my underwear, but is there when I wipe.  I had two transvaginal ultrasounds at six weeks.  I have heard the baby's heartbeat twice since then (last time was yesterday) and I am now 14 1/2 weeks.  My doctor put me on pelvic rest back at six weeks and since I have been spotting every five or six days, my husband and I have chosen to keep me on pelvic rest.  I don't do anything overly strenuous, just light housework.  Today I was cleaning the kitchen (dishes, sweeping, mopping, dusting, etc.) and just a few minutes ago, I had some more spotting and there were two small clots (the blood is bright red).  My doctor says not to stress out over it too much unless I bleed so much that I have to wear a pad and actually change to a second one.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Any suggestions or comments?  This is my third pregnancy and I am 38.  My last child was born almost eight years ago and this one was unplanned.  I was taking Orthotricyclen when I got pregnant and took it daily up until I found out I was pregnant, basically at 5 1/2 weeks.

Hello! I've been reading some stories and I hope you could help me! On June 7th I started bleeding, it was really bright but only a small amout. Being that I'm a first time mom I freaked out and went to the er. They checked everything out and said everything looked normal. I was about 6 weeks then.. two days later I went back because I was starting to pass clots and the bleeding began to get heavier.. they took blood and sent me on my way so later that day I called to what the results were.. my hcg have dropped 1700+ to 1500 or so.. I called my midwife (who I haven't met with yet) and she told me to wait it out a couple weeks to see what happens.. so 2 and a half weeks later I'm still bleeding but it's brown and not very much and each time I go to the bathroom there's a small brown thing (looks like a clot or tissue??) that plops into the toilet.. I'm freaking out because idk what it is or if I should go to the er again to have an ultrasound.. please help!!!

Thank you. Your post was the most helpful.  I just wanted you to know that. I am 10 weeks, and today I have had some light spotting. But just now, 10 @ night I passed 2 tiny clots onto tp while using the bathroom. I'm scared out of my mind because we got pregnant before I had a period, after a miscarriage that never completed. I had a DnC after carrying our miscarriage for 5 mo. I wanted to pass my baby naturally, after we heard no heartbeat at 9w 2d, our last pregnancy was measuring at 8w 4d.  But my hormones wouldn't drop enough to pass, so I had to go through with the procedure. Then a month later with no cycle, I had my blood tested and found out I was 1-2 weeks pregnant!  But this is a rollercoaster of emotions. I found out so soon, so each spot on tp, or ping in my belly feels like somethings wrong. I had a first ultrasound a week ago, and heard the heartbeat, but our prenatal appt isn't for another two weeks. I hear what you are saying about the ER, and I appreciate your wisdom. That was a bunch of stuff...but I needed to get it out! I feel much better. And I will see how I feel tomorrow, and contact my midwife after the weekend.

Hi everyone...I am currently 5 weeks pregnant....I am 43 yrs old and have had 2 fetal demise (baby died in the womb) after loosing the secong baby I insisted that they do testing to see if anything is wrong....the testing came back that I have a genetic blood clotting disorder that is actually quite common....the treatments cane be baby aspirin with prescription folic acid...to progesterone suppositories with Lovenox shots to keep the blood thin so that clotting will not occur which would clot off blood supply to the fetus causing death.....I would definitely ask for blood tests to confirm whether or not you have clotting issues to help carry a baby to term....I am currently on baby aspirin with extra folic acid and am crossing my fingers that it works...my next ultrasound is next Wed...and I find out if there is a heart beat!....good luck all and wish me luck! <3

I am about 4 weeks pregnant. I have been spotting practically the whole time. last saturday I went to the rest room and had a bright red blood clot and light bleeding for about 30 minutes then it stopped. Yesterday while I was washing dishes I felt a blood clot pass. When I checked it was a bright red blood clot the size of a quater and I started bleeding again. I went to the er and they checked my blood, urine and gave me a vaginal ultrasound. The blood and urine read positive for pregnancy and my hcg levels were at 8549. The ultrasound showed the sac still in place but the doctor was not able to see a baby yet. I go back on thursday to recheck my hcg levels to make sure they are rising as should. i am worried any advice?

The only thing keeping me going is believibg each time i bleed it means clot cud be dissolving... N the fact ive been getting strong wee flutters.. I know this wee baby is a fighter n will be there right until labour.. Just need to keep having faith ladies n believe everything will work out for best. Get checked. The same is happening to me now. Been bleeding and just passed a small clot, smaller than a quarter of the size of a penny, this is the first "clot" I have passed. I have been bleeding brown discharge for 3 days now, yesterday I had a big episode of bleeding, used the bathroom, toilet water was red, as well as the tissue when I wiped, full of blood. It stopped as of this morning and now this afternoon it has started back up, this is when I noticed the clot. The blood is not bright red but maroon colored, but it more than just a tint on the toilet paper. I have to go get my HCG level tested today. I am having very faint cramps, I really htink I have lost my baby. This will be the 3rd one in a row.

Hi. Tears are streaming as I write this. I had an internal scan yesterday as was suspected ectopic. This is the case. 4 hours after I started spotting and have been since until about half hour ago. I felt a gush! Went to the toilet and found lots of bright red blood and a generous size clot. I have contacted all the right people but nobody seems interested. This is my 3rd pregnancy and still no baby.

I am 12 weeks and was just at the  Emergency this morning coz of blood clots.  When I was being assessed, I felt gushing blood and I thought it was good I was wearing a Pad.  Blood tests had good result but on the ultrasound, the doctor just saw a sac so I have to go back tomorrow for another one.  We came home and I was advised by my relatives to just lie down.  I got up to pee and 7 thumb size blood clots came out. I get a lot of cramping too.  I am worried but if it's God's will the baby will stay alive then that would be awesome. We just continue to pray  for this.

honestly hun abortions i think could be exactly why you are having probs, its such a harsh procedure and altho i cant understand how any1 can do such a thing to a precious life, i dont know what the reason is u had the abortions, like medically or just because you didnt want them. but either way it a very hard core thing to do to your body and it wouldnt surprise me if your body is in fact paying for your choice to abort, many women are never able to carry a healthy pregnancy after abortion, and it makes perfect sense, why be allowed to carry when you have taken the most incredible and most cherished gift known to humankind?! good luck and please hold life more precious!!!!

Hello,   I know your posting was from Nov of 2011.  I hope all is well with you.  My conditon is the same as yours was.  I'm 4 weeks 2 days pregnant.  I started spotting yesterday and then it stopped. Today it started again and I passed 3 very small clots again the size of a Fruity Pebble (the cereal with Fred Fintson on the front).  I do have a doctors appointmen on Friday (its only Sunday).  If its not to much to ask what did your doctor tell you.  I hope to hear that you have a bundle of joy :)
