Tdap Vaccine
This isn't to start a debate or have anyone get upset over one or the other of what someone chooses to do during their own pregnancies.. However, I am wanting to know more about the pros and cons of getting it while you are pregnant. During my first pregnancy, I got the shot the next day after I had my baby. I then had another baby 11 months later but was told I didn't have to get the shot at that time because it wasn't a year before I had the last. My doctor asked about the Tdap vaccine during my last visit and I told him I wasn't sure I wanted to get it just yet. Of course they asked me today if I wanted to get it at this visit. I told them I still wasn't sure about it but I would make up my mind before my next appointment.
From what I understand, he said it's best now to get the vaccine while you're pregnant to help protect the baby. I'm just not too sure yet on what to do. I'm already iffy about having to take medication while I'm pregnant. I've read that the vaccine is considered safe. I'm just not wanting to go through with it without asking others opinions.
Of course I want to protect my baby from all harm. That's what a mommy does/feels she should do. But, I also don't want to do something I can't take back either if I'm not truly sure if I'm OK with it or not. Did you get the vaccine while pregnant? Did you have any side effects? If you didn't get it while pregnant, did you get it while in the hospital?

I was the only one that got the shot after I had my first baby.. No one else got one.. I don't know how I'm supposed to make a lot of people get one or else don't come near my baby.. It's a tough thing to tell someone...Blah I don't know.
I have never got one and I'm in st.louis this is my 3rd child so I don't know about getting it. But I did have to get it before I left the hospital with my last baby!!!!
I got it done. Still need to make sure my husband gets his shot before the baby gets here. Not taking any chances. No side effects for me, btw, except a sore arm.
I got it last week because my sister chose not to get it during her pregnancy last year and her daughter got whooping cough at 5 weeks and was hospitalized... Almost killed her!! That's just my experience

Go to the CDCs website. I have two children and got it with both of them. I was fine and so were my children. A lot of these websites that are against vaccinations because of bad side effects are mostly bogus and not backed up. Go right to the source if you want an informed decision. www. CDC. com
I haven't yet gotten it while pregnant however I did get it about 4 years ago for nursing school. I will be getting the vaccine this pregnancy though once I'm far enough along. The risk of side effects is super super low (most just experience a little soreness at site). I can also say that I give this vaccine to adolescents on a daily basis and have never had anyone experience any significant adverse effects from them.
I'm not researching it because I fear autism. It's more along the lines of every pregnancy is different and I just want to make the best decision for me and my baby. I've never had a shot while pregnant, so the concern for me is one of many like does it affect the baby? Will any side effects I could potentially get cause a problem within my pregnancy? etc. You really never know until you ask questions. Of course, asking others isn't the same as asking the doctor. If they want you to get it, they will tell you to get it. You know? I just wanted to hear from others who have gotten the shot while they were pregnant since I never received one while pregnant and if they did or didn't have any side effects.

I don't recall getting any vaccines while pregnant, but if it was recommended I would do it. I won't risk the health of my baby because of some online article/blog by someone who claims their kid got autism from a vaccine. That claim has since been found to not be true...and even if it were, I ask would I rather have a child with autism or a child that needlessly dies from a preventable disease.

I live in Oregon and I too had to get the vaccine even though I got it within the last 2 years at the same clinic. It's just a precaution to help the baby. I had no side effects and I kept moving my room to eliminate soreness and barely had any soreness by the end of the day. To each their own, but it wouldn't hurt to have that extra protection for your baby's well being :-)
I'm getting mine in 3 weeks. There will always be somebody who has read online articles from unreliable sources and won't actually look at anything posted on a reputable site. And that is completely their choice. But that is also why preventable diseases are on the rise and innocent children are dying. These vaccines are safe and they work. If we don't vaccinate we risk going back to 1920s when children died needlessly. But honestly nobody can make this choice for you.
I got mine last week my arm was a bit sore the next day but that was the only side effect I had...well I teared up too but that was because I dont the the initial burn of shots and IVs...I got mine now because with this pregnancy baby has iugr and I could be sent to l&d at any moment and I am only 30wks...My kids and husband will get it as well since baby will be a preemie and have enough respiratory issues due to where we live. Also whooping cough has been sweeping through the area so better safe than sorry.
I got mine because in the county that I luv in whooping cough has been on the rise. I did it to protect myself and my baby. Whenever you have a baby they say you need a new one dor protection because it does not work. I got mine not only to protect my child but I work with babies so I like to know I did my part to protect them to.

I am on my second child and I am 32 weeks and my doctor has given every woman and my birthing class that shot when they hit the third trimester. I actually have pamphlets about when I got the shot
Tetanus, dipheria and whooping cough. Whooping cough has been on the rise in recent years and it is lethal in infants. Research has shown that getting the shot around 30 weeks some if the immunity can pass to the baby. Which help it until it can get the shots starting at 8 weeks.
They recommend that anyone who will be spending lots of time with the baby get the vaccine, family, close friends, baby sitters - as babies most often get infected by a family member (with no booster shot) who was exposed to whooping cough.

Isn't the tdap the for whooping cough?
Wow I've never heard about getting a tetanus vaccine while pregnant.... And I'm on my 3rd child. Whets are you from? And Being that I've worked with vaccines you only get the tdap once as an adult then you get the td every 10 yrs. I would suggest you read up on it a little more.
I got the shot last week and I didn't have any side effects from it my doctor said that it a totally safe for pregnant woman to have but you have to be in your third trimester. Its totally up to you if you want to get it now or later its not required during pregnancy but its recommended to help protect baby and yourself
