Terrified!!

I am 27 weeks pregnant with my second baby and am in the process of moving states. The public hospital I had my son in provides everyone with there own rooms and I have just found out that the hospital I will be at where I am moving too has 4 to a room. Now the sharing bit is fine but I am absolutely terrified of having my baby in a room with people (parents and their vistors) that havent had there whooping cough booster shots or with people who havent been immunized or had their other children immunized.  I have checked and it is to late to have my private health insurance upgraded to cover a private hospital as the private health I have now only covers me as a private patient in a public hospital which was fine for where I live now but obviously not for where where I am moving too. I can't stop thinking about it, haven't slept for 3 days and don't think there is a solution to my problem. I know it sounds like I am being a bit over the top but a friends baby died this year because they didn't realise you needed a booster for whooping cough and they passed it to the baby. I don't know what to do......

Also about the pertussis vaccine, here they give you a swab at 36 weeks to check if you need the vaccine or not. I remember I had it when pregnant with my son last year but didnt need the shot.

I did ask about paying for a private room but unfortunetly its not an option at this hospital. The next nearest hospital is 2 hours away and there is about 5 or 6 there but im thinking that might be the best option so I will call them all and see if they do single rooms or will let me pay for one. Thanks your help ladies!

The hospital I'm staying at u deliver in a private room and u can pay for a private recovery room but they are first come first serve and if there is no private rooms available then u share a room with one other mom.  I know how u feel it is really nerve racking to know that ur baby could be around potentially sick people when their immune systems are so low.

Now doctors are recommending that pregnant women get the pertussis vaccine in the end of their pregnancy because it will then pass to the baby and help protect baby against it.

Can't u switch hospitals??? Even if its a hour drive. For my first I picked a hospital and it was the best if middle TN and a hour long drive. Worth it.  I didn't go to the one on my county . And normally they move you to another room after baby is born . Try going to another hospital. Hope it works out best luck to u
