Trisomy 13 and 18

I did the 1st trimester screening on Tuesday and my results came back negative for down syndrome, yet positive for Trisomy 13 and 18...I was in shock. She told me my odds are 99.5% that my baby will be born healthy and normal (1 in 200) and that the finger test has alot of false positives, but I am freaking out. I go Monday to do the blood test,  but won't get results back for 2-3 weeks. Has anyone else tested positive for T13 and T18, yet delivered a healthy baby or had your blood work come back negative after testing positive??

Thanks
Vanessa

Mamichalke, I did the finger prick test first and that is where I got the false positive results from, I then went and had the blood work done, which is a more accurate test. I talked to a couple different obgyns and was informed they do not offer the finger prick test anymore due to having so many false positives. I have told everyone I know to just do the bloodwork,  because I don't wish the anxiety and worry I had for 2 weeks on anyone!

We chose not to have the tests because of such a high level of false positives. My doctor agreed with our decision and told us that they would be able yo see markers during our anatomy scan if there could be a problem. I am so glad that your baby looks healthy.

Mmm. My doctor doesn't even offer the finger pick one.  Just the blood work one. From what I'm reading above it looks like the blood draw one is a better test. Did you do the finger prick or blood draw?

I got my blood work back and everything was normal and my baby is healthy. I went from 1 in 211 chances (finger prick test) to 1 in 10,000 with the blood work. I am so relieved and can't wait to meet my handsome little man, Liam :) Thanks for all of your comments!

We won't have a problem if our baby ends up having ds, reason why we won't do the amniocentesis because it won't change our decision!! It will be loved no matter what and I can't wait to meet our little baby!!

Babysproutcause I had a prenatal diagnosis of down syndrome with my first son. I worried, stressed, went through all emotions possible. He is the biggest blessing to our family.  Full of love & affection, funny, toughest 5 year old I know.  Check out "happy soul project" & see little Pip. A lot of people do get false positives but then there are a few of us who didn't.
Beat of luck!

We got a scare as well. If your OB is telling you that you shouldn't worry, try not to. I know it's so hard but it's best to stay positive

I got the call today saying we are 1 in 55 (1.82%) for down syndrome. On Jan 5 we went for the finger prick and the sono and in the sono they seen that our baby has a thickness behind the neck. At first I started freaking out and crying non stop up to yesterday when wr had to go for genetic counseling. I was a wreck!! So im goin on monday to do the blood work bc I refuse to get the amnio. I started reading blogs online of women that went thru the same thing and all my worries went away. I guess I understood it better. Its a risk but not a diagnosis and there is a 98% chance that we will have a healthy baby!! Most women that went thru with it ended up having healthy babies!! If it helps look up blogs of women going or that went thru the same as you just so you can relax. Hope all goes well with you!!

I had a friend get 2 false negatives, and she worried through her whole pregnancy (both times).  I declined the genetic testing because of her.  I couldn't imagine going through that.  Best of luck to you!

We got the call December 7th ish saying that our baby girl tested positive for Trisomy 18 and it was a 1/70 chances. We went the 11th and had an ultrasound done and what baby would show us looked great and the blood work came back that there was not enough fetal DNA to work so we waited to redraw till our 2nd ultrasound to see everything she wouldn't show us before and that was Jan 5th. She still looked great an we are now waiting for the blood work obviously since it was just Monday. And hopefully you will get it back sooner our first one came back in a week and a half. They told us after he looking so good on the ultrasound we have less than a 1%chance of having it. But they said they unfortunately have seen that 1%. We refuse the testing that could harm our baby so we are sticking to blood work and hoping for the best. We will know 100%sure when she gets here. We are currently 21+5 and the stress has gone down a ton... Good luck!
