baby girl name - Gemma

Ok girls- hubby is from El Salvador and his maternal gmas name was Antonia. So we've got Gemma Antonia for this little one. I know alot of you are from the UK, so you'll be more familiar with the name, Gemma. If you would all be so kind to let me know how many Gemmas you actually know, and if your from the UK, Australia, or the states. I like my girls to have unique, but not made up names. And I loved Emma, but it seems everytime I go to the park or the movies, there are, like, 5 there, not to mention all the variations of "Em", like Emily, etc. I dont want to yell for my kid and have 10 run to me- lol

Thanks girls! Yes my hubby's mom is thrilled that we are honoring her mother and Gemma is one of those names that translates over into Spanish well. My other two girls have Irish/English names and their poor names just get butchered when we visit my husband's family.

I like it and im from the southeast(US). I love it when a childs name has meaning and honors a family member. Im having a little girl also. She is due at the end of December and we plan to name her after my aunt and my husbands grandmother are both with Jesus now. I dont care about naming trends. I want her name to mean something!

I have 3 friends called that name 2 spell it Gemma and 1 Jemma. I'm from London UK. I think Emma is very common but still love the name also like Emily, Emmie and Esmee.

I love the name. I dont know anyone named that but it makes me think of the TV show Sons of Anarchy because one of the characters names is Gemma.

I love the name. I'm in North Carolina (the states) I know exactly 0 girls with the name :) and it will be generally easy for people to read and pronounce

I am from the West Coast of the U.S. and I know of one Gemma.  A lovely name and not entirely unheard-of here but not common here at all.

Love the name Gemma!! I'm from Indiana. Don't hear that name. But my favorite show a woman's name is that!
