baby is too small.

Today I had a scan done because I am measuring small (around 21weeks) I am currently almost 32 weeks. And have just found out bub has dropped fron the 48 percentile and is now at 19% within about a month.  Obviously im quite upset at this, facing the possibility of being induced early and having a prem baby. Im just wanting to see if anyone has gone through this or could offer some advice.  Thanks

My son was born with iugr.  I had him via c section at 35 weeks bc he was transverse. He was 3.7lbs and didn't need the nicu. But was slightly jaundiced though. They found out my placenta was small and he wasn't getting all the nutrients he needed. He is a very chunky 16 months old now and hasnt had any problems. But I started measuring off around 30weeks as well.

I know a girl who measured small her whole pregnancy. The baby was in about the 5 percentile. Baby was born super healthy with no issues.

They have sent me to the hospital a couple times and thought that I could have a still birth. They watch me closely. Any little things that may seems wrong they have me call and have me come in for a nst and ultrasound. My doctor visits are usually 3-4 hours. They do believe that iugr due to my placenta. They do a biophysical one a week and she always gets 10/10. Her heartbeat is in the normal range. They didn't think I was going to make it this far in my pregnancy. They haven't induced me yet because she is still growing not to were they want her to be but if there is sign of no more growth they will induce me right away. They are hoping to induce me at 38 weeks if I make it that far into this pregnancy. They told me on Monday she reached the 3 pound mark. Of course ultrasound isn't the best measure of these things but it made me feel better since when I found out at 28 weeks she was only 1 pound 10 oz. Trust me I know it's hard not to worry but try to keep a positive attitude. I keep telling myself that when they have to induce me its because it's safer for her.

I also have a single umbilical artery in my son's cord- it is called a "two vessel cord". Only one vein and one artery rather than two arteries. I kept my faith strong and never let any news I received consume me. I was told my son had bilateral choroid plexus cysts in his brain and he quite possibly had trisomy 18. Prematurity, low birth weight and death were all things I heard. I am now 36+1 with a little boy that has beaten all the odds. Cysts have cleared, no sign of trisomy, and he is enormous estimated at 7 lbs. 2 oz. at my last scan taken Tuesday. Having steady contractions now and hoping labor is here! Keep your faith strong- know that God has a plan for everyone. We are made in his image and we are all perfect to Him. Wishing you the best of luck! Prayers your way, Mama!

Wow. Im sorry to hear, must be stressful gor you also.  Being at 3% does that put your bub in the category of having iugr? And having added complications due to being small?  And have they discussed with you an earlier delivery due to being small? I may not even be able to go past 34 weeks because the longer baby stays in the more complications there can be.

I am currently going through a similar  situation. I am now 35 weeks and I am a ftm. At 28 weeks, I found out that my baby was measuring in the 3rd percentile and continues to measure in the 3rd percentile. I go to the doctors twice a week and meet with a fetal specialist. All the doctors have told me they are not sure why she is measuring so small. It probably one of the most frustrating things to not know why your baby isn't growing and you are doing everything the doctors say. I have had so many lab tests done and all have come back normal and all the doctors say I'm healthy so they are not understanding why she is so tiny. I know the doctors plan on inducing me at 38 weeks if everything continues to go to plan. I know it's hard but stay strong. Take it week by week that's what I try to do. Stay positive!

It unfortunately may not be the case of just being small, it may be IUGR, which can have quite a few other complications attatched. Have to do more tests etc yet to see what the outcome will be. Ajrain I find that quite amazing!! Your mum deserves a medal!!  Thanks again :)

I was a 26 wk premie. I'm perfectly healthy and have 8 lb + babies. If your little bun is small, it will be better off delivered so you can start fattening he or she up! :)

I guess im just selfish!! I dont want a nicu bub. I want to take my baby home with me and just be a happy little family right away.  Im one of those people that have a plan and I make everything stick to the plan. And now im faced with this, I don't like it. I was in the hospital yesterday telling them how its supposed to happen haha. No inducement.  And no medical issues :/ shame bub had other ideas. Will be letting him or her know about it one day lol.  Thankyou for your response

I do not have personal experience with this, but just wanted to say hang in there. My husband was born at 32 weeks premie and my new niece was csection out at 30 weeks premie, both ended up very healthy and happy after some tlc in the nicu. It's scary, but modern medicine is amazing today. Just stay positive momma :)

Thankyou milz, I was unaware that that could even happen.  I know a premmie bub isn't the end of the world. Im just scared. Ftm and everything was going great (or so I thought) until now :/   I don't even know what to research to find out what im in for. At this point they can't/won't say too much.  Im sorry  ashley, I can only imagine the amount of stress that has put you through. Im glad to hear your little one is doing well and I hope he is born healthy. Good luck to you and your little one. Thankyou all for your encouraging words

I'm sort of going through the same thing I was told at 20 weeks my little boy has single umbilcord artery. Its were one of arteries in the umbilcord   is not there. At least thats how the doctor explained. They told me he would not be over four pounds and he would be born early because this would be better for him be cause he wouldn't be able to thrive. I've been doing ultrasounds evey week since we was 20 weeks. I cried and prayed that this would not be truth. But because I put my faith and my son into the lords hand my baby is measuring 6 pounds 7 oz. I'm 38 weeks1 day and still getting induced. Sometimes you can't believe the ultrasounds measurements be cause they are just estimates. The whole time I've been pregnant with him my belief has been if he is kicking and moving stronger that I can feel him he must be getting bigger and plus my stomach got bigger and heaver and I knew the baby was growing.  Good luck to you and your little one

My great grandmother was a tiny baby they said they had to carry her around on a pillow because everyone was too afraid to carry her in their arms no one ever mentioned if she was delivered early just that she was very tiny
But she was feisty and strong till the day she died in her late 80s
I hope that your baby is a fighter and good luck to you

Not sure if this is the reason your bubba is little. But a friend of mines daughter had actually somehow tied the umbilical cord into a knot and this was not visible via ultrasound. She was born via c-section 10 weeks early. 3 years later she's perfectly healthy :)

Thank you I am glad to hear your cousin was perfectly fine.  I was also told that they may not know what caused it, but still doesn't put my mind at ease. I want my baby to continue baking and be healthy.  Thank you for your well wishes :)
