Im wanting to do both because thats whats more comfortable for us. I dont want him to only know spanish till school or day care because my mom and that side knows no spanish. I was spoken to in spanish and english and picked it up great. Then took spanish all thru college to get bilingual cerficate .

Yes you should speak the language that isn't the spoken language of your country in your home because once they are out they will learn the other language.  For instance when we lived in the states at home was always Spanish and now that living in Mexico city in the home we speak English.

I'll speak german to my baby, and daddy will speak hebrew. If friends are over then we'll switch to english to be polite. We're urging both sides of the family to speak either german/hebrew to them. They'll pick up english fast enough. :)

I'm not bilingual but my husband is from Mexico. He speaks mostly spanish to our 3 year old and I have even learned alot more spanish just from my son. Since I'm the main person with him throughout the day and my husband is at work, I try to find ways to still have some Spanish. If he watches a movie or TV it is always in spanish. And i have looked up simple things to teach him. Like I taught him the song head shoulders knees and toes I'm spanish. I'm hoping with a second child that it will help that much more to have the three if them speak Spanish together.

We kinda didn't have a choice with that one :) my husband's parents don't speak any English, and my parents know more, but Russian is still the main language for them. We also attend an all Russian church. Until our kids reached school age we spoke Russian exclusively at home. I had to teach my kids English because we homeschool, but they picked it up really easily. They get lots of practice with neighbors and friends, and now at home we speak both. Planning on doing the same with this one, although I think he'll pick up English much faster because of his older brothers.

Bilingual here as well , I'm sure we'll try our best to teach the child Russian and I'm sure grandparents will help. My only worry is that even my Russian is mixed with English so much , that it will be difficult to keep it up 100% of the time.

We spoke to our son in just Spanish he learned English from TV and I put him in a Spanish daycare from 3to4 years old so he is now 6 and fluent in both Spanish and English people are shocked when they hear him we will do the same with this baby.  English is easy to pick up where Spanish there's a lot of enunciation that needs to be learned early on so that it's perfected my brother never has because my mom spoke both to him so he's embarrassed now to speak it

I speak 3 languages fluently. My advise is to speak nothing but Spanish at home. The baby will learn English on his own from TV, school, friends, etc. He can only learn Spanish at home.
