epidural or no medication?

What will you be doing? I am thinking about giving birth with no medication I'm really scared of the pain during labor but I am more scared about having back pain after the epidural for years at least I'll have pain for one day, but not years and years from the epidural.what do you guys think?

You can have a birth plan, but it is just that.
A plan.
Keep an open mind about epidural, but if you manage without it -then definetly go ahead.
Pain is temporarily and your body will create endorfin and adrenalin to deal with the pain.

If you want a good read about birthing without epidural I can recommend:
Ina May's guide to child birth

Good luck!

Im sorry that some of you got back pain from it! I had it with my first and loved it. Doctor was a pro and knew how much to give me. This second one I will go natural. The first one only took 3hrs of labot so im thinking this one will go by fast...but who knows.
Go with what yoir body tells you. If you can make it great, if you need the epidural then that is okay too. Best part is the baby!

I had to have a spinal with my csection in August 2013. I didn't have a choice. I had to have a csection because of placenta previa. I STILL have pain in my back at the injection site over a year later. I will be going for a VBAC this time around with no medication. Everyone is different, but their is always that chance. ****, some people never get complete feeling back in their legs, but that is the risk every single person takes...

I am going to tuff it out with no epidural.  Women have been giving birth since the begining of time and just recently have we had the option of drowning the pain with drugs. I believe birthing it a rite of passage into motherhood and should be done as naturally as possible.  I dont mean to offend, but its how I see it. Hope everyone has an easy labor!

You are right. The opinion of labor is only temporary and the moment your baby is out none of it matters. I went either the epidural the while time until my water broke at 7 cm and I finally gave in. I'm still beating myself up over not being strong enough to refuse it because my daughter was born not even an hour later. She will be 4 years old this month and I still have back pain. I wasn't sure what was more sore the next day after giving birth, my back or my vagina. I couldn't bend without the epidural site burning for 6 months. Now it hurts when I bend for an extended period of time or when direct pressure is applied. I have told everyone to not let me get one this time. I know that none of this will matter when you are actually in labor and in pain. I was so against it just because I wanted to go natural. I didn't even rake into account my mother's warning of her back pain from it because I've known it her mother's who had it without back pain afterwards. I shouldn't have risked it because now there isn't anything to be done. The pain relief I got wasn't worth the tradeoff, in my opinion.

Epidural. Before i had my son (2 yr ago) my doc told me i dont get brownie points for trying to tough it out. Best advice ever. As soon as you get that first hard contraction you may wish you had the epidiral. Plus i basically ended up tearing (and having to be cut). I couldnt imagine not having had the epidiral, im going that route again this time.

I did my 1st naturally but I didn't have time to even get a epidural if I wanted to.  So going natural again with this one!

I had one with my first. I had no issues during or after the epidural.  I will definitely have one with this one. Keep an open mind. Try it without, but if you get one... it's not the end of the world!  Good luck on whatever you decide.

Oh my Gosh! Epidural!! I did with my daughter over 2yrs. ago, and I've never had any problems. I plan of doing it again. I highly recommend getting it. But I have heard some do natural births with no problems. I say keep an open mind and go with the flow. If you don't need it...great! If you do...don't suffer.
