I got an iv and it didnt do a thing ...they planned on giving me two doses but went straight to epidural ..after thw epidural I was in no pain and could still slightly move my toes..all in all leading through with a painless delivery and only a bit of a sore back now. I wont waste time with iv drugs next time my epidural was very helpful why try to suffer through contractions. ;)

The baby will be very drowsy with the iv and not with the epideral that's what I was told when I was in labor with my last baby

The baby gets whichever meds you get. Research the affects of babies and epidural. The affects can last up to a few days and could hinder the baby's ability to nurse. Whatever you choose educate yourself and know how it affects you and your child! Good luck!

The IV did nothing for my pain at all. I decided on the epidural and was much more comfortable. The pain went away in seconds

I got a epidural and was able to sleep till I gave birth. I was in labor 18 hours before the doctor even offered it. It really depends on you. They had to poke me a couple times before they go it in. But it was well worth it. But till this day I still fill it in my back. There's pros and cons.

The baby I KY gets the drugs from the iv if they are given too late..  I used them with my first delivery.  With my 2nd I had an epidural but it made me so numb I couldn't feel anything so I felt useless.  I think I'm going to try nitrous oxide first this time and see how it goes..  If I don't like it I will probably opt for the iv meds

In my opinion the IV drugs were a waste of time. I tried those first  since I was a little nervous about the epidural. But they only lasted about 20 mins & I was out of it.  The epidural allowed my to get some sleep & still be coherent. Plus with the IV, baby gets those drugs too. :(

Well IV meds only last so long. An epidural lasts the whole time you have pain until you give birth.
