gestational diabetes

So after my blood test I have learned I have gestational diabetes.  3rd pregnancy,  & I didn't have it with my first two, nor before this pregnancy.  Not over weight, we we are clean eater's and don't eat out. Crazy how something like this can put a dab of stress On things. My OB said more than likely it will go away after birth. Still yet. I have to geat a ultrasound twice a week  for the rest of my pregnancy,  on top of seeing my Dr every other week  . And poke my self with a stupid needle 4 × a day to check my sugar.  Ughgh only 11 weeks left! Anyone else going through this? Or went through it?

Oh no!! I totally thought you wouldn't get it.
Well, on the bright side at least you'll get to see your baby every 2 weeks!

I am type 2, so I do this all the time, on top of testing sugar I have to take insulin 5 times a day as well.

But for testing sugar, if you poke on the 2nd knuckle of your finger or on the sides of your top knuckle, it doesn't hurt quite as much.

Thank you so much for the tip. I am sorry you have to give yourself shots. I have to give myself blood thinner shots (Lovenox) every day. Those shots burn so bad even way after the injection.  Good luck

I had it last pregnancy with my son. Not sure with this one bc I'm only 8 weeks and 3 days. It wasn't bad I just started watching carbs and sweets. If u had a craving for sweets I substituted it with sugar free. Sf isn't as bad as u would think. I loved the sugar free ice cream just be careful bc it gives you really painfull gas! But it was worth it to have my ice cream.

Oh, and the only time I get those symptoms (shakes, headaches, etc) is when my sugar levels are too high or too low. If I ever feel like that, I test my sugar levels.

I was in denial for the first week. I've since determined on my own that I do, indeed, have gd. I don't know how you gals were instructed to test, but I'm suppose to test 4 times a day. Once in the morning before I eat, and then two hours after I eat breakfast, lunch, and supper. Blood sugars should be between 70-120. Fasting levels (the first test of the morning) should be no higher than 95 (some doctors don't want above 90). If I don't restrict my diet, I'm always over. So, yep.. I do have it.

Now, one more question. Where are you poking your fingers? Mine are not sore, and I've poked 4x a day for the last month. I was instructed to poke on the side of my finger tip (I hope that makes sense). But not on the actual tip. That would hurt. Hope you ladies are doing well..

Yes I am going to. See, ... what happened , when I went in for my 3 hour screening,  of course I didn't eat past 11:30 my apt was at 9:30. My first test came out reading 106!! So she said let's poke again,  my test came out 85.. she said I could wait around for three hours, and more than likely have diabetes,  or we could go with the lower number and leave it at that. She said she suggests I do have it. And just to go home. So I said okay. I guess this is real something I'll have to deal with. Now I have 2× the appointments which I have to leave work for. Plus poking my self.
I failed my one hour test badly but couldn't do the three hour test because the drink bothered my gallbladder so bad I was in hospital for a few days. So the primatologist (however you spell it) had me keep a log for 2 weeks of what I eat and my sugar levels along with my ketosis. I failed that as well and that is how they determined I had gd. But because I lost so much weight and baby is way under they aren't too worried about my diet. They are happy if I eat 2 meals a day.
I am the same Way. I lost 17 pounds so far. Of course not by choice.  Everything I eat comes right back up. Cant even drink milk. The baby is right measuring fine. So at least she is getting what she needs (probably from what my body has in storage ) I have mentioned the weightloss many times to my OB.  he's never been worried about it.. it's a shame,  I am now down 2 pants sizes,  from my pre-pregnancy size.  Cant wait untill I can eat actual food, yah know with out thinking "how will this taste coming back up" ewwwww Lol

Sweetbee, did you ever decide on a girls name yet?

No Lol. I think when I see her I'll just know. we weren't set on a name with our other two either until I held them. So we will just keep playing the name game until birth lol&& other than the issues your have been having,  how has your pregnancy been going?  Counting days as well? Lol
We don't know if it is a boy or girl. However,  we can't decide on either names. If it is a boy either Noah or Aaron and if it is a girl either Eve or Abigail. This pregnancy has been a nightmare. All my other ones weren't bad at all. I have been going in every 2 weeks since I was 4 weeks pregnant and I live hour and half away from OB. I am so counting the days down tell my c-section but it feels it is going slower now. How has your pregnancy been besides gestational diabetes?

Same here as you two girls. I already had a very restricted diet because I have severe gallbladder disease. I can't eat any fat of any kind, beef, pork, dairy, salas or greens. Now with gestational diabetes I can't have sugar and limit carbs. The baby is already under weight according to last 2 growth scans. I have only lost weight in pregnancy. I can't wait tell I have baby and 4 weeks after that to have gallbladder removed.

I miss real foods. I drink mostly smoothies. I really miss a Burger which is funny because I never really ate them before I got pregnant. I have a hard time controlling my blood sugar. It is always around 167 an hour after I eat.

Does your fingers hurt? Do you guys get symptoms with your diabetes like headaches, shaking, confusion?

& yes my fingers do hurt, they are sore: -( && I don't have any of those symptoms.  Thinking when I see my Dr Wednesday I am going to see about getting re-tested
See that is crazy?? Mine has been 120 after I eat?? I usually check 1-2 hours with in eating.  And with out meals, it's 75 some times 80. So it's not high?

Going through it right now. Same as you, except this is my 4th pregnancy. Did not have this in my previous 3 pregnancies.. Not overweight... eat sensibly... BOOM! Diabetes..ugghhh.. I'm now 33 (almost 34) weeks.. been checking blood sugars 4x a day now for a month.. Not fun, but it gets easier to navigate what to (and not to) eat. The hardest part is saying no to cravings (like ice cream). Can't wait to eat what I want, when I want again, LOL
