Ps I'm a labor nurse and have seen them done. I'm sure if you ask your doctor n9t to go in the rectum they wont. You will still have a positive result if you have it.
It's a new way if testing for gbs. We used to only swab vaginally but now they will swab around the rectum. They might go in but only very slighly. The swab is the size of a qtip and shouldn't be that unpleasant. If you are positive, you will get iv antibiotics during labor, 2 doses protects the baby. If you don't get both they just watch the baby more closely.
Thanks! They do the test to see if you have a certain infection/strep. If you do they give you a shot during labor. My doc does it around 36 weeks.
They just swap the area around the rectum and the vagina, you don't feel it, if you didn't know what they were doing you wouldn't even think that is where they are swabbing
What is a group b strep test?
What is a group b strep test?
When do they test for it?
I never really felt them do it. Don't worry you will be fine
They swab your vagina and rectum...they dont go inside! Lmfao!
I thought my Dr was gone swab my rectum too but he just did a vagina swab which I was glad
Thank y'all for clearing my mind. Swabbing around and inside makes a big difference. I have been dreading that appointment.
I got mine done a few weeks ago. The doctor used a cotton swab to test my rectum. It was very fast and didn't hurt.
They aren't meant to put it in you'd rectum, they just swab a little bit into your vagina then drag it backwards towards your rectum but not actually inside it. Maybe you can ask if you can take the swab home and do it yourself? That's what I did.
I was negative with the first. I just don't like anything in that area and the nurses say all of the docs at my office does both. Last time I begged the nurse not to do it and that is why she didn't do it in both places.
Ive never heard it being done rectually. My dr just swabs vaginally. Since I tested positive with my first. He didnt even test with the 2 or with this one. He said it doesnt juat go away. And will always treat as its positive.
