have you asked for induction? did they agree to it?

Has anyone ever asked to be induced when you were at the hospital and your contractions went away. I am past my due date and I went to the hospital tonight with strong and consistent contractions but only dilated 1cm. They are keeping me overnight and checking in the morning. I'm thinking about asking to be induced if nothing has progressed. Has anyone been in this situation and had the doctors agree to it?

Doctors Cnt legally induce until a week before set due date. Mine is gonna induce me a week before just because my last 2 babies were HUGE & my poor little body Cnt take the abuse again lol . He is already 6 lbs & I'm 33w6d

It depends on the doctor. I'm due March 12th but I go to my appt on March 10th and if I haven't gone into labor by my appt my doc will schedule me for induction. You don't have to be weeks overdue. So you should speak with your doc. It can be dangerous for the baby since they can start to have BM in utero.

Yeah they don't usually induce unless your Bishop Score is 7 for a first time mom or at least a 5 for a mom that's already given birth. You would have to know all your stats if you were trying to figure it out at home. But its safer for you and the baby if your cervix is "favorable" they call it.

My dr won't do non medically necessary inductions unless you are dilated and the cervix is ready. Apparently it's high risk for a long drawn out labor ending in a c-section if your body isn't at a certain point yet. I feel your frustration though! Being 9 months pregnant and waiting is so hard. You can do it though! Hoping for a speedy arrival for you!

Update. That morning I still had not progress anymore than 1cm I asked and they said they don't do induction when there is still so much more for the cervix to open. So they sent me home Friday morning and they will reevaluate the induction option at my next appointment on Tuesday. Thank you for all your responses.

My friend was in your situation  (contractions started then stopped). They induced her. It seems like they would induce you if that happened to you, especially if you're past your due date.

Thanks for the response. I know it is better to go natural but the days and days of contractions with no progress is really taking its toll on mentally and physically.

Doctors usually wont induce you unless there's a medical reason or your well over a week overdue. But, it sounds like your slowly making progress! So hopefully no need for it. And trust me, getting induced is so much more sore than natural labour xx
