Where there's a will there's a way! I had many failed attempts to quit. But when we decided to plan for a baby, i quit cold turkey - after 15 years of heavy smoking! Well, i did smoke 2-3 cigarettes on special occasions (birthday, new year's, valentine) thereafter, but only like once in 2 or 3 months. By the time we started trying to conceive i stopped completely.

I think of it as giving my baby the best possible chance at a healthy life, and everything beyond is in god's hands. I gave up drinking at the same time. These are all minor pleasures compared to the happiness of giving birth to a healthy baby. I probably will start smoking and drinking again after the baby is born, but these 9 months are worth the abstinence. It's not my right to gamble with someone else's health. Whether it is born healthy or not, it's not worth the risk and the guilt i will feel if i smoked during my pregnancy. There's no source that will say it's ok to smoke.

I know it's very hard. My best option to stop smoking was by not buying any more cigarettes. Have none, smoke none! Do not allow yourself access to cigarettes. Stop buying them. It's only hard the first few days, then you get used to it. You feel yourself gain more energy, breath better and feel better. And you'll know it's really worth it!

I wish you good luck mama and hope you can quit at least for the next 15 weeks.

Ftm here...28 weeks and 1 day today. I know its bad but i have been smoking my whole pregnancy.  Ive cut back alot. I make my hubby leave me only 2 cigs for the whole day 7 till 5 while he is at work. I use to be bad about waking up and smoking but i hide the cigs away from me. Now i get up, make the bed let the dogs out. Brush my teeth and eat and drink. Then i just take a couple puffs and put it out. But i can not seem to kick the habbit... but so far my baby is healthy and hope she will be when i have her. So all together in 1 whole day and night i smoke about 3 to 4 half cigs day!! Putting them out half way threw the day as well!! Before i was pregnant i was smoking a pack a day. So i think ive done good. I seem to be way to stressed if i dont have a couple puffs. So please dont let anyone tell you that you are a bad mom for smoking you are not and people that dont smoke dont understand how hard it really is to quit.

I agree with her^^^ i am also in the same boat. I understand how bad it is.. I quit for a little over a month now i am back to quitting again. I am in a house of smokers (i live in a duplex mom and sister downstairs in separate apt) but its hard. My mom told me to stress over things is just as bad if not worse than a 1/4 of a pack of cigs a day. I feel terrible.. i start a new job monday so i am hoping that it helps.. but i am constantly told by fellow moms and by my own that i am not a bad mom. This is my first, and its a lot of changes i am dealing with inside and out. Money problems and my own body changes and lifestyle changes are mostly to blame. I am at five to seven a day and i will cut down to quitting again. Its just a matter of filling your time so you dont think about it and stuff. Good luck with your fight. Just fight the urge a little harder everyday and you will get there.

Just talk to your ob. My ob hates women to be on any kind of meds or anything else while pregnant, but with me he analyzed everything that I was dealing with. I'm 30, having my first child, have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, ptsd, a hiatal hernia, and 4 herniated discs. As soon as I found I was pregnant I took myself of if all of my meds except my pain meds and my stomach meds.My ob actually told me "I'd love to tell you to quit smoking, but I'm afraid the stress would put the baby in more harm." I'm at 28 weeks. He said the least I smoke the better (obviously). So I cut back a lot, but am still smoking when I get stressed. Keeping yourself busy with other things will also help you with the cravings. But seriously, talk to your ob. They will figure out something.

Honestly I know how hard it is.. and I know that guilty feeling all too well.. with my son I was unable to quit until I was 8 months.. and with baby #2 at 6 weeks... It's even harder.. my son was born on the smaller side.. though neither his father or I are very big people... I know plenty of other people who struggled with quitting smoking while pregnant... and NOBODY has a right to make you feel even worse than you already do about it. It's hard.. I get that.. now that aside... a couple different suggestions I've been given from a couple different people were.. say you smoke 10 smokes a day.. do that for a week.. then smoke 9 a day for a week.. 8 a day for a week and so on and so forth.. another suggestion would be wait until you really need a smoke.. then have a few puffs and put it out.. meditation is also supposed to help.. but it's up to you what you want to do.. and if you can quit then great.. if not... well no it's not exactly healthy but neither is stressing yourself out over it... chin up chick

I finally quit at 27 weeks, hardest thing ever but you can do it. It wont be easy but you CAN, u just have to TRY! Imagine every yime u inhale, blowing the.smoke directly into your newborns face, that is what you're doing... please try, if I could stop, you can. Its only 15 morebweeks and u can go back to them.

I would bring it up to your OB too.. they should have a few options for you. don't consider yourself a bad mommy though.. trust me, people do worse.

to answer your question though, yes it could harm your baby. inhaling ANYTHING, other than oxygen obviously, can deprive your baby of oxygen. I'm sure you can understand all the different problems he/she can develop from lack of oxygen..  aside from low birth weight, developmental issues, asthma, etc.

just talk to your doctor about it, and try to replace the craving/want/need/urge to smoke with something else.. any time you think about a cig, chug some water & lay on your left side.. waiting for you sweet baby to kick is much more reassuring than smoking & wondering what harm you've caused.

good luck, praying for you! ❤

Cut back alittle eat alot of fruits no caffein stay away from people who do smoke so u wont crave. I no its hard try the electronic cigg.people would tell u to think about the baby and how u can quit cold turkey take it a day at a time sometimes I keep my self busy so I wont crave as much water make ciggs taste nasty also does orange juice am dealing with my own demons of ciggs myself  but try that or have some one hold ur ciggs so they can help u limit it as well and keep in mind its never to late.to quit.

No one can tell you your baby will be okay or not. Smoking during pregnancy is a gamble because they can be fine or have respiratory problems. I quit when i found out and it was tough. I did it for my baby. I still have days where i crave a cigarette but i dont pick one up. Just find other ways to handle stress or buy gum, ice anything that satisfies your oral fixation. Also talk to your doctor, they can guide you through smoking programs or go to WIC

I am also trying to quit. I Have smoked with all 5 of my pregnancies so far and they were all healthy and well over 8 lbs. Do what you can but your stress over smoking is just as bad.

Ask your doctor what he/she thinks about the smoking what you think he/she is going to say? We can't really tell you what's good or bad for you.  But as far as I know smoking is not a really good option.  I would suggest to stop but only you know what you want to do with your  child

Smoking is extremely bad for your baby, and it can lead to low birth weight as well as other problems. I would strongly suggest you talk to your doctor and see if they can recommend help for quitting. I quit when we started trying to get pregnant.
