iron deficiency anemia

Has anyone else ever been diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia? I was told I have it and have to take double the usual amount of an iron supplement to try to bring my iron back up before having my c section in 9 weeks. Also, I was told having it could result in heavy blood loss and a need for a blood transfusion after surgery. I'm just wondering what experiences anyone else has had with this?

I am usually anemic even without being pregnant, but I have to take twice the iron too. I was never told that I would need a blood transfusion though! I don't know if its cause I am not planning a c-section or not but wow, yeah take those iron pills. Sounds serious.

Eat a lot of greens!! I use spinach in like everything I cook. And yes keep taking the extra iron. I have the same thing but I'm going on baby number three and never had a c-section so I can only imagine how much blood you can lose. Too much red meat is not good for anyone so try not to eat it toooo much. But greens are your best source. Kale, spinach, collard greens, etc... it's best with the veggies so you do not become constipated as well ;-)

I am also 30 weeks. My iron pills are not agreeing with my stomach very well but I'm suffering through the belly ache and making sure I take them twice daily like I am supposed to. It really scares me because I've never had any surgery besides my c section with my daughter and then I didn't have any complications. I'm scared of having issues with this next one from being anemic.

Yes im very anemic.  I've had 3 children and blood transfusions with 2 of them. TAKE YOUR IRON! Drink 100% grape juice  and eat you a good steak! Medium well to well of course,  lol. But really,  Anemia is serious.  You can become VERY weak. Again…  take your iron medicine!
