Do anyone know what the benefits are in nyc?

I looked it up online and saw $170 a week for 6 weeks, I find that hard to believe, what can I buy with that? Even in my third world country they give u a portion of your salary.  I tried calling fmla but no one answers I left multiple messages still waiting on a call back...I don't want to ask my H.R yet,  I don't want it to look like I'm pregnant and can't afford to be pregnant,Idk she just has a way of saying things that make u uncuncomfortable. ..any advice, please

Move to NJ! Lol ... I just got all my info for my benefits and I am entitled to 4 weeks before due date and 6-8 weeks after delivery (6 for vag and 8 for sec) and that I get the $560 a week for. After that I am entitled to up to 12 additional weeks off for "bonding with a newborn". I get paid for the first 6 at 2/3 my normal pay and the last 6 weeks is unpaid but it still holds my job.

I just find it really sad that at a time when your supposed to be your happiest, you have to worry so much about money and how much time you can spend with your newborn...I now understand why so many people I know went back to work between 4 and 6 weeks after giving birth, I'm thankful that my husband can manage without me when I'm out of work for the 12 weeks, bbecause it would hurt my feelings to have to leave my newborn sooner

I live in Georgia and work at a hospital and their FMLA is unpaid =/ and they only guarantee my job for 12 weeks. If I have to stay out longer than that then they don't have to hire me back. I also had to go on leave a month early so that's automatically 4 weeks so I'll get about 8 weeks with my baby before I have to leave her :(

Yeah.. FMLA has nothing to do with receiving money, it's only that you cannot lose your position at work IF you qualify- it's not automatic. Your company would have to give you info on short term disability.

Im in ny. I get the 170 a week and also another 300 bc I have short term disability through my health insurance. Fmla just secures your job you won't get paid through it.

I don't even understand it, how are to care for our child, i was hoping to not have to touch my savings at all, because we saving for a house but apparently i won't have a choice. ..it's almost like they don't want us to choose between being pregnant and working

Me and my hubby work for the same company. In Tennessee we get nothing for our leave. He gets 12 weeks and I get 16w.  We did qualify for foodstamps but zero cash benefits. If it wasn't for family helping us out we would not be able to spend these first important weeks with our son. Now we are just waiting on him to get here.

With either if my first two maternity leaves I didn't receive anything, my insurance didn't cover any time off work and neither did the company I worked, it was a small family owned company.
My sil insurance company paid her half of what she would have made in that 6wk period after having baby. This time around I'm a SAHM and I'm on my husbands insurance. We don't get any aid from the government.

That's a damn shame,  i live in NJ and my friend who works in NJ said she received around 560 a week...i guess they don't care about pregnant women in NY and the high cost of living

It depends on your company's benefits package. Legally hey don't have to pay you anything which of course does suck... The $170 is paid through some government aid, and yes, that's the highest you can get and it's based on your income. Fmla is unpaid.
