I work at a fast food restaurant (bk) and with the job I'm on my feet for long hours and actually have to do a lot more bending than most people would think necessary for the job...either way I'm not sure when i should take my maternity leave...please help.

I live in Canada. I get a year of maternity leave (3months mat and 9months parental) im 21 weeks today and my last visit to the dr he put me on medical leave as of the 4th this month until the baby comes. Then i start my maternity leave as of sometime on august. Im not sure how it works on the state but if ur dr judges ur work to not be good for you (mine was related to stress at work and some more complicated things too) then he may be able to write you a letter of medical leave and im pretty sure your work isnt allowed to turn it down.

Most companies do not pay for maternity leave. Some will give you short term disability and you get a portion of your pay. Not all businesses give you fmla either. The company has to have at least 50 employees, you have to have been there for a year and avg at least 1250 hrs. Luckily I qualified this year but I didn't with my second child cuz I wasn't there a year. I only was able to get a 30 day personal leave even though I had a c section. It worked out though.

Are u a regular employee or a mgr? Do u work for a corporate bk or a franchise? I have been a shift mgr at a franchise bk for 2 years and I have to go on fmla for maternity leave which means I don't get paid anything at all. Unless I want to use my one  week of paid vacation I get per year. I can take as much time as I want but going on fmla only gurantees you will have your job when u come back. Sorry for all the questions I'm just curious because I think its ridiculous they can't pay me anything at all. And we don't even get sick time or aquire vacation just one week per year if you've been there one year or ten as a manager. U get absolutely nothing as a regular team member except fmla. So I am working my 45 hr weeks right up until I deliver. I would ask your doctor mine saiid it was fine because I'm not high risk or anything.

I would love to have a year off, but I don't think I'd be able to go back after that. I thought the U.S. was 6 weeks or 8 with c-section, so that surprises me about California. My work will pay me through short-term disability for 4 weeks. I have to use all my sick time and accrued vacation for first two weeks. If I'm short on that time, I don't get paid until disability kicks in. Got to love maternity leave being paid that way. Lol

I work at UPS and they have you go out on maternity leave at 20weeks because the job is so physically demanding. After the baby is born you get 6weeks for a normal delivery and 8weeks for a c-section. I'm scheduled to take an extra vacation week on top of that.

Here in Canada u get 3 months maternity leave and 9 months parental leave so a year in total, work as long as you can and if it gets too hard maybe u can go off on sick leave or something for the remainder without having to dip into you mat leave.  If ur work offers such a thing.

I bartended with my 2nd and this one which as you can imagine is a lot of bending and movement and on my feet without breaks and the 2nd went into labor 2 days after I last worked (39 weeks) and with this one I worked until 38.5 weeks. As long as your body is able and you don't have high risk then you should work right up to due date or a week or two before to get settled. Its good for your body to stay active while pregnant and you will go stir crazy if you quit too soon unless you like being lazy and you can afford to.

Yep I'm in Canada and I plan on going till the baby says I can't anymore! I am a veterinary cc technician which is a lit of lifting and fighting with animals but work can't make you take leave early if you just get a note that says you are restricted they have to keep you on..a girl I knew at fast food restaurant was even given a stool to sit on at cash

That's up to you, if you been there a year they give you 12 weeks total that's before and after. If not then they don't have to give you anything or if they only have so many employers. I'll trade jobs with you :)
