I'm with everyone else here. I have a cat I have had for 12 years before my daughter was born a month ago.  I think that the fear of having animals is part of the old ways of thinking. Things have changed. Things even changed since my sis in law had her kid 6 years ago.

If you have had cats before you should be fine changing the litter box and all. If the cat is an indoor cat there is nothing to worry about. They get the infection from eating other rodents like mice and chip monks. Just make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after changing the litter. It's really no big deal. I wear a mask and wall my hands. My cat has never been outside and I have been around cats my entire life.
Good luck! :-)

I have 4 dogs, 2 cats, & a turtle... my kids have always been surrounded by animals lol. With my oldest cat, I had to watch her because she tried to adopt my current youngest. I had to chase her out of the crib a few times. But she figured out. Watch out for that for sure. Otherwise I wouldn't worry.

I never heard of it being an issue. I researched cat dangers during pregnancy a long time ago & don't recall hair/dandruff being a concern. I have heard some cats like to snuggle babies and end up suffocating them on accident, but as long as you don't let the cat near the baby while sleeping (keep the door closed) it should be okay. We had to lock our bedroom door because one of our cats (the one we still have) knows how to open doors. The only other issue I know of that might be a concern is you're baby may end up allergic to cats, but you won't know that until she's born or sometime later.

Mostly this is an old wives tale, that a cat in the house will steal the baby's breath. Yes toxoplasmosis in the litter is a problem for a pregnant mommy. The part about fur....cat dander is the most common allergy. That's the only issues. :) As long as you watch for signs of allergy in baby and jealousy from the kitty, all should be well. ;)

As I understand it, the real danger with cats is in their poop. You don't have to get rid of the cat as long as someone else is cleaning up after it. Try to stay away from the litter box as much as possible.

We had 3 cats when I was pregnant with our son. My husband took care of cleaning up after them and we didn't have any issues. I'm nearly 33 weeks and we have 1 cat. My husband cleans up after her and everything is going fine.

I suggest looking it up on the internet & discussing your concerns with your doctor. Good luck!
