runners

Before I got pregnant, I jogged 4 times a week for 4-6 miles. I want to stay active as possible during my pregnancy. I am only 4 weeks along and I have been walking/light jogging for about 4 miles 4 times a week. I would like to know what kind of running adjustments you had to make as you progressed in pregnancy. And what your doctors have told you.

I know a lady that ran cross country until the day before having her baby.. Just listen to your body.

I still walk 3-5 miles 5 days & I run about a mile of that, but I break it up in between walking & I am 32wks today. I also just hiked 20 miles over the span of a few days. My doctor said anything pre-pregnancy is fine during so long as you aren't high-risk/have specific considerations. Being healthy & active is necessary for me, pregnancy hasn't stopped that.. a lot of my "run" is walking now because the baby is much heavier & I am a lot more tired.. but I still do the full mileage & run as much of it as I can.

I was jogging 8 miles a day 5 days a week until i hit 10 weeks then i was so sick I gave it up. I have pretty much quit exercising because I'm so tired.  I'm 17 weeks now and want to try to jog again but who knows.

I was not an avid runner, it was a new years resolution to start it, by the summer I found out i was pregnant and I didn't want to use it an an out excuse. So.  I kept running. My doctor and runners forums advised watching my temp and heart rate and obviously how you are feeling.  So that's what I did, I jogged vs ran. I continued up till 7 mths. My last hoorah was a half marathon! This was my first baby, I was in labor forever, pushes for 2 hrs, but honestly I have no complaints, I was pretty comfortable the entire time.  I think running played a huge parr in my endurance and strength for delivery.

Before getting pregnant with my first I was an avid spinner. And during her pregnancy I continued my same old routine, didn't change a thing.  I didn't stop spinning and till 7 months into it and I can honestly tell you her labor was the easiest one of all of mine. You should speak to your doctor to be certain but I believe the only thing they might tell you to be wary of is your heart rate. I think they say not to get your heart rate past a certain point. Other than that, being active during pregnancy is a great thing. Congrats on the pregnancy =)
