I've gotta be honest it's great an all that but after my 1st I've asked them not to do it straight away as I found it really gross I hate blood it makes me queasy so when they pull your top up and put a bloody slime baby on Me I hated it. Not that they listened as in my last 2 births they carried on and did it anyway but this time it's being made very clear I want her wiped up a bit before they hand her to me harsh I know but I really hate it :)

Unfortunately with cesarean births u cannot do it immediately like others.  Once baby is out they have to clean you up and stitch you back up and they take baby into the recovery room during that (I send daddy with baby).  But daddy could start it and then you take over when you get there.  I did it with my second as soon as I got out and it was great. He also nursed so well and is still my cuddle bug.  With my daughter I wasn't even offered my daughter until TWO hours after she was born.  Family and nurses kept doing things with her.  She never nursed.  Also I was only ever offered her to nurse thr first 16+ hours and visitors hog her all other times until I finally burst into tears and told my husband everyone had to go.  Problem with csection you need the child handed to you and taken when you want to sleep or they need changed.  By the time everyone left my husband was so tired that he got upset when I would ask him to hand her to me.  Long story short make sure whoever is with you hands you baby as soon as you are out if you have csection and maybe spread out visitors.  I btw had told dr and nurses I wanted skin to skin...they apparently forgot and I was very drugged up...

Does skin to skin still happen with cesarean births?

I won't do it unless my aunt or my SO help me. I know I'll be exhausted and in a lot of pain, probably dazed from medicine. I don't feel it would be safe for me to try holding him until I've slept and had a chance to eat a bit.
I really would like to hold him after they clean him and look him over and such, but I don't want it enough to maybe risk dropping him or otherwise hurting him.

Basically all it is is laying baby right on you after they are born. Be prepaid for baby to start rooting around tho looking for food. It's amazing holding them too for the first time. Just make sure the dr and nurses know you want to hold baby right after they are both. They normally clean out their nose first and make sure they are breathing properly and then lay them on you.

The hospital I deliver at really encourages it. I did it with second and it was a great experience. It was just my husband, baby girl, and I for a whole hour with no interruptions. I kept her on my chest and she latched right in for nursing. It was great. I can't wait to do it again with this one.

I plan on doing skin to skin right away. They say its amazing for the bonding process and helps huge with breastfeeding if that's your choice :-)
I'm a first timer so I'm curious to see how it will go.
