stay at home mom?

I'm 32wks pregnant with my second child and I just really want to stay at home and raise them after this one is born. But my fiance doesn't think we can manage without me working. I manage a pizza place for 11$ an hour and I work 40hrs a week.. I could see if I actually had some sort of career or respectable job that I cared about or liked. But right now I feel like my time is better spent with the kids. We have enough money for the bills and some extra. the extra would be gone if I stopped working. Sigh.. I've always imagined myself a stay at home mom. It su.cks that my fiance doesn't support it. I think he gets overwhelmed by the thought of supporting four people financially.  Things would be tight, but in my opinion, worth it.  And my fiance could actually get more than 3hrs sleep and we could have time together as a family. How do you ladies do it financially? Any ideas on how I can help ease his mind?

Try to actually write out the costs of things.. if you stayed home, you wouldn't have to pay for a sitter. You can breastfeed on demand and in the first year alone, that saves ober $1,000! As opposed to using formula. If you stayed home, you could home make more meals and possibly save on eating out. Just put all of your finances on the table and do pros and cons. It'll probably end up actually saving yoy money. I started making my own laundry detergent- super easy! ! But that on it's own saved a lot of money

And... you can get disability, paid family leave for 12 weeks (the standard for what moms do for maternity leave)  and then even file for unemployment and get that for about 6 months and even longer if you wanted to go that route.
There are so many options! I also went to care.com and got a job for an extra $100/week to pick up kids from school and drop them off at home. So that's another option...

Well, I'm in the process of couponing for the things we week need when i give birth in Jan. So far, I've saved tons of money by buying multiples of toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, body soap, lotion, as well as food items that have long shelf life, shampoos n conditioners, also baby items.

I currently work as a teacher, but in the event i don't return for a while, these are ways we well not have to spend money. I just look at Sundaycouponinserts or wholeinsert websites to see if anything we use will come out with a coupon. Then i order about 10-20 inserts and so at the store with the lowest price.

Before mybaby shower, we have at last five months of items stocked. This is how we do it financially so if one person works, everything is still fine. Try this method so you won't stress later for items that will cost you more because you used coupons on sale items.  Example, if something is usually 3 bucks, when i have 50 cents off, i finds a sale where it's 1.70 and use the cotton before it expires. I've purchased 50 bucks worth of things for 14 bucks before.

Good luck.

Great idea! I should make him a presentation with posters and everything lol. Right now we dont need a sitter because we work opposite shifts. And I cant find a respectable well paying job where I can only work late nights or overnights. We definitely couldn't afford daycare making what we do. But I only see my fiance half an hour a day and I dont get the same days off as him so we never get any time together!

I was wondering how to make laundry detergent. Please explain. That would save a ton. I coupon and get 56 tide pods for 9 bucks but still want to cut that cost.

There are recipes for laundry detergent on Pinterest. Even if you have one of those HE ones. I heard the stuff you make yourself gets the clothes cleaner too.
Also, on Pinterest there are a lot of tips for a one income family and how to save money when shopping for food and such.
My husband and I are a one income family now and it's totally worth the sacrifice to be able to raise your own children.

Unfortunately I dont even get fmla(unpaid leave for 12wks) or disability at my job because I haven't been employed there for longer than a year. Even if I had been there over a year I would only get 12wks unpaid(fmla). I get absolutely no benefits either. My boss said he would hire me back after my maternity leave. But cant gurantee I would get as many hours as I do now.

I don't know about you, but where I live, childcare costs a fortune! It made no sense for me to work because all of my $ would have paid for childcare.  I stayed home with my two for over 4 1/2 years and we made it work.  Then I received an opportunity of a lifetime and wentt back to work with full benefits, a huge salary, and a lifetime career.  But I never would have returned without something like this.  Maybe consider a part time job a couple nights a week when your fiance can be home with the kids.  Also, have you considered running a private dayhome?  You could watch a couple of kids, make money, and stay home with your kids at the same time ;)  I understand your fiances worries, but you have a right to be with your kids too.  Run the dayhome idea by him and hopefully he's receptive ;)

I live in the bay area...child carr cost runs 2000 a month for full time...not to mention rent being near 3000 even for a tiny apt. Luckily my hubby has a good job but I did not have a career making enough for me to work. i have been working as a relief counselor but  now I am watching kids, make good money here for that. I only do it 3 days a week. We also have been budgeting and buying certain things in bulk. I make food, pack extra for my hubby.

We cut down on all costs that we could. No cable or anything extra. We have Netflix instant watch and internet. You just have to be aware of your finances.  We paid off all loans except mortgage and that made it possible for me to stay home. If you can figure out a way to do it, it's so worth it.

I'd suggest sitting down and writing out all your bills for each month to get a relative idea as to how much you can comfortably afford. Show your fiancĂ© once you do. If it's too close don't do it. You'll be extra stressed about money and that'll put extra stress on your relationship too. After I had my first I significantly cut back working to just two days sometimes three a week since we weren't financially ready. After my second we were in a better financial position. You also have to take into account how much you'd be spending on daycare. In my case we would have been spending almost all my paycheck for daycare so it made sense for me to stay home.  I hope you can figure out a way to do it.

We wrote down all.our expenses, cut where we could. Made sure all sepnding was kept in line. We set a budget for grocery, clothes and also tried to set aside some for emergency money even if it was only a.little every month. It's tough, we've cut back a lot, sold some things but it's worth it to me. I wanted to be in charge of raising my kids and we would have spent an arm and a leg on daycare anyway.

What about a compromise and finding a part time job working 2 or 3 days a week?  That might be the ideal situation.  You get time at home AND you still have your foot in the working world bringing in some extra money.

Thanks ladies we talked a little bit about and he seems to be warming up to the idea. It helps he recently got a promotion and has been working overtime.

You qualify for paid family leave and disability based on what you make in a quarter.. fmla is different.. family medical leave act is what your employer covers. So technically speaking, they don't have to keep your position own if you take your maternity leave. That's good that he'll hire you back, but hopefully your husband will warm up to you staying at home it'll ultimately save your family money.
I make my homemade detergent with grated fels naptha, washing soda (baking soda in the first couple batches i ever made worked fine) borax. That's it! But recently started putting those fabric freshener beads (don't know exactly what they're called) but when i added those, i ground a whole bunch of them in an old blender and added it that way. Hubby was as complaining clothes didn't smell good enough lol but I keep mine in powder form and only use one tablespoon per load! Plus add a shot of vinegar

Im a stay at home at home.mom.for the last 3 yrs. I have 2 boys and one due jan. My husband pays for the mortgage 800$ a month the electric cars food everything. He refuses to get any type of assistance.  We manage though. I don't know where you live but I live In The country we have a good size amount of land. So we grow tons.of veggies and I can everything like crazy! I also save tons of money on my lunches and gas now that I'm not working. And we also installed a wood stove in our house which saves tons on the electric as far as heat. Especially since we have 10+acres of woods we cut and stack during the summer. If its something you really want to do you can do it but it will take some sacrifice and adjusting. He was stressed at first but now he never wants me to go back to work He wants to open up a farm store on our property and have me run that. Obviously that's still a little ways down the road but that's our long term plan.. Goodluck its very rewarding to stay home

Me and my husband decided before we were even married that I would stay at home.  We want our children raised with our values and discipline.  I believe God had designed the family this way and when we seek to honor God he ALWAYS provides. Slowly mt husband has taken over all the bills.. I am working fourth hours for a couple more months and then I wil stay at home. I read a great article on how a stay at home mom is a luxury for her husband.  (Google it) Best wishes for you and your family
