Already moms and PACIFIERS

Any mommies out there use/used pacifiers for their babies??? If so, for how long and how were they weaned off of it? I know it soothes them but I'm a little reluctant because I don't want him to get attached/addicted to it and be dependent on it. I already had my baby started on it (he's only one week old) and I wanna wean him off it already :(

My daughter was in the nicu for a week after her birth and they would not let her eat and constantly shoved a pacifier in her mouth to stop her from crying and blowing a hole in her lung from the forced oxygen machine. She ended up using it until she was almost 2. After she was 10 months it was only used at bed time though. She still asked for it for months after I took them away, but she adjusted well.

I did, he had ot for nap amd night only. I did not give it to him on the day even of he wanted it.  He didnt even care. He weaned off himself at 2.5yrs. as for teeth,  all babies are different  so it may not do anything for one but may to others. But their permanent teeth do not grow in till around 4.  Their mouth and teeth are very malleable so it wont hurt them permanently.

I was never going to give my child a pacifier, but the nurse at the hospital put it into perspective. She reminded me IF my kid was a sucker, we had 2 options- a thumb or a pacifier and you can only take 1 away as they grow :) luckily mine used a pacifier only for a few months, she just grew out of it. Good luck!

One of my biggest peeves is seeing a toddler walk around with a pacifier! Its so off putting,  unnecessary and causes speech and teeth issues. Luckily both my sons were done on their own around three months so I never had to wean them from it.

My first refused a pacifier.  My second I took them away when he started chewing on them.

My daughter is almost 2 weeks old and a pacifier has been a life saver!! My daughter is a suckler, and I'm a breast feeder. I can nurse my daughter for 25 minutes and she still wants to suck- her pacifier soothes and comforts her without her having to be attached to my boob 24/7. It actually is beneficial to us both... the way I look at it is she'll have to be weaned off/broke of many things. If it makes my life easier I'll take it :)

I has 3 big kids and 1 on the way. I always gave my babies pacifiers SIDS scares me so much,  and having your baby use one helps prevent it from happening.  As my kids got older they only used them a night. It only starts affecting their teeth around 18 months. I say use it, just don't abuse it. Lol good luck!

When my daughter was a baby I used them only for a few months. She kept spitting them out and we kept losing them so I just gave up on buying more and more lol. I was grateful cause alot of parents have trouble weaning their kids off of them and then you see a 6 year old walking around with one in! My daughter didn't really care one way or the other lol

We didn't want our babybto have one but the nicu gave him one to help develop his sucking reflex. We then got a sleep specialist to help us at 16wks old and she recommended we take it away so we did and a couple of days later he had developed ways to self soothe and didn't want it anymore.

My girls both used them at night mainly because doc said it was good to help with sids prevention. They both weaned themselves off of it after a few months. One was a little longer but by 10-11 months they were done with it.
