vix vapor rub?

Ahhh, I've came down with the WORST cold of my life - my list of "safe meds" from my doctor include robatussin and Tylenol cold, but since those just mask symptoms and not actually cure you, I don't really feel comfortable taking them, or anything oral actually. Instead im doing herbal tea, homemade chicken soup, but my torso and pelvus are starting to be soooo sore from coughing :( I am wondering if anyone has had success with vix on feet or chest to help suppress cough? Pharmacist said its safe but just want opinions if its worked  for you?
And yes Ive called my doc office and if not better in a few days I'm going inm, but The vix I thought of after I talked to them . Thanks in advance, sorry for my whole life story of a post!
