I'm from the UK and can take upto 12 months. 39 weeks are paid at our basic rate which really is basic. Most companies have their own maternity policy from which we receive pay too, but only for the first 18wks. We can apply to take more than 12month off but it's totally unpaid ofcourse. It's amazing how different it is across the world.
6 weeks- paid 60% of wage through unemployment and must use all PTO before that kicks in. Also if you decide to be gone for more than 3 months, my job can fire you. I live in Minnesota
Texas and 12 weeks unpaid unless you have time off saved up. I'll end up with 5 weeks paid for by my time off hours that I've saved and not sure yet how long I can go unpaid after that. I may have to go back after 10 weeks.
Toronto canada 12 months with pay
Winnipeg, Canada. I get 12 months paid. First 6 months I get topped up to 92% of my wage and the other 6 months is only 65% I think. Then my employer allows 4 years of family leave un paid if you want to stay home that long with your baby/child
4 weeks before my due date and 6 weeks for natural birth or 8 weeks for c section. Then 12 weeks flma but my company only pays for 6 of those 12. I am in California
To answer the question about Canada, in Alberta we get 12months 80% of our regular pay. We can work to make up the 20% difference of that if we so wish.
Yea im in the U.S. and im going to be sort of stuck bc ill be 2 months short of a yr to qualify for FMLA when I have my baby. I'm not sure what I can do. Other than pick up an extra job now and just stash money...
I'm in Canada. I get 12 months total through EI at a percentage of my previous pay, because I didn't have a job with mat leave benefits (I was a "casual" employee and a student, so I didn't have a career or anything), but at least it's something. Everyone's employer is different, I think. If you get paid mat leave through your employer, then it's probably whatever the company offers, but if you get it from the government, like I am, then it's a percentage (which is different depending on how much you made before mat leave).
To ladies from Canada- are you getting your full pay or a percentage? I'm in the US, and will be getting 3 months paid @ 80% of my regular pay but that's provided by my company, the law doesn't require them to pay me... In many European countries women get paid just a flat amount of money which isn't that much during their 12 month leave...
I can't believe the differences between countries! I'm in Ontario with 12 months paid and additional, optional 12 months unpaid.
Australia. With my first I had 18wks paid leave from the government and 12mths unpaid from employer but I fell pregnant again so I extended my unpaid leave to include this pregnancy too.
For financial reasons I had to return to work 6 weeks after my son was born which meant I was out for 8 weeks total, unpaid (I had to stop working at 38 weeks because of complications). I now have a much better job and will be able to take a longer maternity leave partially paid by short-term disability insurance.
But if I were to get laid off or choose to leave for a different job midway through pregnancy there's no guarantee that the new job would allow for any paid leave - even FMLA doesn't protect anyone who has worked less than 1000 hours over the last 12 months at the same job.
I get 3 months paid, we live in Washington
I was reading about the different maternity leaves that different counties offer and the us is pretty far behind most countries. Typical FMLA leave in the us gives you 12 weeks unpaid, unless you have vacation or short term disability saved up. A lot if other countries offer PAID maternity leave. makes me angry to be honest bc a lot of mothers have to return to work b4 they're ready, but they need the money so what can you do.
Toronto, canada. 12 months paid. In addition my employer gives an additional 12 months unpaid. I work for the government. That part is optional
I'm from New Zealand and we get 16wks paid parental leave and 12 months unpaid leave
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
12 weeks
Nova Scotia Canada 12mths
I live in Texas and get 12 weeks
I'm moving to Canada!!!! So lucky!!
