Pregnant or Depression?

This is going to be long so I am sorry. I want to preface I have been diagnosed with depression years ago by two separate doctors. Recently I have gone untreated due to job loss and unemployment, no income.

I missed day 21 of my pill (tri-sprintec) and have had some odd symptoms since. I had unprotected sex the night I forgot the pill. I took the pill the next day, around 16 hours late. Two days later I felt very painful cramping, mostly around my uterus but it also felt like it could have been one of my ovaries, the right side. I felt weak and tired, and my stomach felt incredibly bloated and tight. The next day would have been the day I started my period, usually at night time. It started late that night but it was so light it was barely noticeable. Then I woke up today with more blood, but some of it was old, there was more brown than I usually experience (which isn't until the last day of my period, the 4th day.) I have some tightness in my lower stomach that is like cramping but different, and I'm not sure if its due to my anxiety or something else.

My main questions is, would taking a pregnancy test today be accurate? Do I have to wait until next month when I usually get my period? Should I be concerned? I do not have health insurance and going to a doctor or OBGYN would be very expensive for me.

Hi,

I wouldn't worry. It is doubtful that you are pregnant. When I've missed taking my pill right before the "sugar pill period week" it just causes my body to to start my period sooner. When you take your pill late, and it's so close to your period already, the surge of hormones tends to confuse your body temporarily and you get the pre-spotting and cramping you experienced.
Unless you were having unprotected sex on the nights leading up to the 21st day of your cycle, it's very unlikely that you could be pregnant.
Here is a nice article which gives you a blow-by-blow of what your should expect from your period on each day of your cycle: http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-16961/a-28-day-guide-to-your-reproductive-cycle.html

It's far too early for a pregnancy test.

Good luck!

I meant to add that my depression symptoms have increased since job loss three months ago and I am not sure if this strange period could also be a result of increased anxiety and stress
