37 weeks and already 5cm dilated..help!

I am 37 weeks and had a doctors appointment on Friday and found out i am 5 cm dilated and 80-90% effaced. I have been feeling really uncomfortable and was starting to have contractions on Saturday night so i went into the hospital and they kept me over night to see if i would dilate anymore and i didn't so they figured i was having false labor and gave me two shots of medicine and put a shot of medicine in my IV to help with back pain and stop the false labor.. I am just ready to have this baby I have been walking, bouncing on an exercising ball, eating spicy food, eating pineapple, sex..if there is anything else that I could try that has worked for someone else I am willing to try anything as long as it wont hurt my baby. :) Thank you!!

Thank you for posting that I am currently going through almost the same thing. I have been having contractions since 30 weeks and all they do is nothing I finally started dilating and they still send me home and I am supposed to be having a c section its like they are almost trying to force me to do natural. but I will follow your advice and just keep showing up or even go to another hospital I am tired of this misery with no pain relief

with my first one, my dr check my cerviix on my 37th day, he said im 2 cm dilated and he'll see my a week later (that 2:30pm). me and hubby went to the mall till 11pm when i feel painful contractions like im having dysmenorrhea and diarrhea lol but its irregular and i can still handle it so idk if its real or  false labor, but hubby went panicky lol so went tithe hospital at 12 midnight, i told them im having  irregular contractions and im 2cm dilated this afternoon. i can still walk through my way to L&D . they put me on monitor and checked my cervix. they said im already 5cm and they wouldnt send me home, my contractions are irregular ( more like every 3-4 minutes then change to every  10 minutes then 4-5 minutes) so thet gave me meds to make the contractions regular. and then by 5ish am  the on call dr breaks my water bag..then at 6:30am i had my baby boy

well I hope the best for you. I know I was questioning my doctor when they'd send me home. I'd tell the nurses I'd be back, sure enough I was back. I know how ya feel though. maybe Friday you'll get good news!

Oh wow yeah the nurse at the hospital told me if i would dilate to six they would keep me, but they aren't going to help me go into labor until im 39 weeks because it puts stress on the baby...I went to the hospital again with contractions and A LOT of pressure but it just wasn't enough and they sent me home... I go to the doctors friday so i'm gonna talk to her about it because i don't know if i can take much more, If im not standing or laying on my back im so uncomfortable and im having trouble with UTI's and then when they give me antibiotics for them then I get a yeast infection because i have to take high doses to get rid of the UTI It's like a non ending cycle..Im just ready for this little girl to be born, my whole entire pregnancy has been very hard and stressful, But i stay happy for my baby girl lol

oh my!! this was me 2 weeks ago at 35 weeks walking around 6cm and them just pumping me with fluids and not giving me anything to stop contracting and etc. finally i told them at 36 weeks and 2 days i wasn't leaving til they let me have my baby boy.. cause i had spent from saturday and all that week going to the hospital. finally friday morning they induced me and i had my baby.
so if it were me, i'd just keep showing up and etc, cause my obgyn told me that morning that 6cm is pretty much active labor, let's have ourselves a baby! lol. but i wish the best of luck for you and do hope your baby can wait a little bit longer.

the same thing happened to me. friday went to the hosp, they kept me overnight (iguess it was false labor) but i dilated to 3cm and stopped but was still havin contractions they gave me meds n sent me home. but ill be 37 tomorrow n i have a dr appt so im gonna ask them to check me. but i figured they would leave u there at at 5cm also. but hopefully your next appt somethin will happen especially since your full term now.

my next appointment is friday..and i thought they would keep me too and so did pretty much everyone i told so i have no idea, and no way i dont want her staying in a little longer im full term now so i want it to happen

Don't they keep you in the hospital if your dilated to 5 cm?

I just turned 37 weeks on sunday and was in the hospital saturday night so i was still 36 weeks

I was 36 weeks when i was in the hospital and it was false labor..they said even if they gave me the meds if it was real labor i would still get the contractions but i didnt and didnt dilate anymore so they sent me home..the medicine they gave me was a muscle relaxer because i was also having bad back pains.

Just try to relax and visualize your baby passing through the birth canal peacefully. Don't think about the last hospital visit. Try to get your mind to release its tension over your body. I agree it is very unusual for the docs to stop your labor this far along...did you ask why they wanted to stop you?

its unusual for them to stop labor @37 weeks most hospitals cobsider that term and wont do anything to stop it... more than likely if they gave u meds to stop it almost anything u do to bring it back on may not work
