No dilation :(

I'm 36+6 and today my doc checked my cervix, she said that my cervix felt soft but no dilation :( I was disappointed because I really thought I had. How many of you ladies are already dilated?

NewMommy0415 - thank you! Yes I can't believe I've made it this far. When I first went on bedrest it seemed like an eternity. But now I can't believe it's almost time!

As far as I know, there's no other way of detecting a dilated cervix. I get what you are saying. I've been on bedrest for 12 weeks wondering if today is the day but thank God I knew otherwise I wouldn't have been on bedrest and I would've had a baby in NICU for several months. I think it was your initial approach that some of the ladies were offended by. You could've shared your opinion differently. We are all tired and counting down the days. Whether it's by dilation or due date.

ak8554 - That's awesome and well put... I'm glad u have made it to 38 wks, what a blessing huh? I'm sure that gave u scare no? A perfect point for why being check is important.  Ashbabyno2 - the question is why are u on an app that apparently is only frustrating you, I'm pregnant but didn't go to childbirthing classes, you don't HAVE to to be here just because ur pregnant.  There's a difference between expressing an opinion and being rude and over opinionated. Abuse? I wouldn't consider people correcting you as abuse. In fact I'm beginning to realize this debate is going nowhere, I hope u have a healthy and happy pregnancy that goes exactly as you hope. 40+ wks, with no cervical checks, in the UK.

So do you think over here preterm signs of labour are missed?we have the highest success stories of preterm babies surviving as there is other methods of detection. My initial point has surely been missed here! All I was meaning was nearly every single post is about cervixes and gets rather annoying. Does it really make that big a difference to the remaining weeks of your pregnancy thst use know. Cos use can ve 1cm dilatd for weeks so to me its giving false hopr or alarm that babys cominh soon. I coukd be sitting here at 3cn and 49% effaced for another four weeks and id then ve worrying oh no shes cominh soon im not full term ect when it could mean absolutely nothing about when laboyr is going to start. Or I could be sitting no dilation or affacement think I have all the timr in the world to get readt and wake up tomorrow with co tractions.

And yes we pay money here but you get excellent care in return. We are all due any day and since our doctors are checking us weekly that is why its the only subject going on these days. There are other forums you can follow that might be of more interest to you.

Checking the cervix for dilation is very important. It's how doctors are able to detect signs of preterm labor. In my case, my cervix was effacing at 26 weeks! I was immediately put on bedrest. Then at 33 weeks I started having contractions and after they checked, I was 4cm dilated! They had to stop my labor. So I'm very thankful for my American doctors who saw me every single week throughout my pregnancy and managed to get me to full term. I am now 38 weeks and almost 5cm dilated but still hanging in there.

Why am I on this app? Its a pregnancy app and oh look im pregnanct. Was quite happy with this app till iv read about woman self checking cervixes, trying to induce labour at 33 weeks ect. So like everyone else here I can have an oppinion. Just because its different from yours doesnt mean im wrong. We dont pay for healthcare in uk luckily, use do so thats maby why use get more checks done. Im not sitting takig abuse on this cos I have an oppinion. But hope yo god there is a uk app got pregnancy cos in the next few weeks again every god dam post will be about dilation and thinning and notging we here get to know. My due date gives me the adrenlainr and excitment I need not how my cervix is doing.

Because they want to... It's their cervix, they're excitement & to be honest without seeming rude myself... If it's that annoying for u why are u on the app? I've seen u post a few times basically telling people the same thing, why can't u wait? why do u care if ur dilated? we don't do this in the UK. Awesome... Let these moms share or anticipate their pregnancy however they would like & compare and look for support in the way this application was intended for. Again dialating doesn't mean they can't wait for their due date it gives them the adrenaline that the time is near and soon their precious baby will be here.

Comment was not racist. Nearly every post in this april 2015 forum is about cervix dilation and effacement. How do I know my babys comng...well I im 36 weeks have a big bump and a due date and thats all I know and its bettet that way cos if we were told here in uk our dilation at our midwife visits then that would clearly all be thats on our mind. Didnt want to be rude so apologies but seriously every single post is the same. I just dont get what happened to my baby will come when they are ready. Its that bad people are checkig their own cervix! Like why.

Last week at my 36w appointment my cervix was at1.5. But i haven't felt any contractions this pregnancy which is a little discouraging. My next appointment is Wednesday and I am excited to find out if I've made any progress down there since contractions are not really telling its almost time. Nothing wrong with being excited about it :)

NewMommy0415, Thank you!!! It was really rude but I didn't want a full blown argument right now. I 100% agree with you. It's just really exciting to know that you're almost to the finish line. Goodluck to you too! We're almost there!

I don't agree at all with ashbabyno, that was rude as h•e•l•l, and idk about anyone else but I'm about sick of seeing stuff like "you Americans" or "I feel sorry for woman in America" to me that's just as bad as being racist... Enough already. I'm proud to be from America and feel extremely blessed to be. Now that my rant is over! Lol I agree 100% with the other posters, it's not being obsessed with your cervix, that sounds ignorant. It's that exciting feeling of "oh man I'm close." We have all been waiting for so long dialating is a sure sign to being at that finish line. In this post I didn't see anything like you wanted to rush your pregnancy but more that you are excited to see progress! Anywho... I'm 36+5 and doc said I wasn't  dilated at all either. But he also said one day u may not be and the next bam! Ur a 3! Lol it's getting close and I know you have to be as excited as I am!! Good luck!

I agree with ashbabyno2, baby will come when baby is ready. Don't be disappointed in your body because you haven't dilated. We are all different. I'm 37 weeks and not dilated and I'm glad. I want baby to come on time and at a good weight :) I'm FTM so it could be why I haven't dilated yet. Are you FTM? And I hear even if you are dilated it can be days or even a couple weeks or more until you actually have baby. Human body is complicated and awesome! We are almost there ladies! Keep up the good work! :)) April 11 is so close yet so far!!

I was high, firm and closed at 36 wks.  I am finally 1cm at 38 wks but still high and firm, so having a soft cervix is progress and good even with out dilation.

Its exciting to know if you r dilated. Just another step closer to meeting your baby whether it be tomorrow or in 3 weeks. I wasnt dilated at 36 weeks but was 1cm at 37 weeks. When your dr checks again im sure u will be :)

I was asking  the ladies that have, if you don't like the post then you don't have to comment.  It's not that I'm obsessed with my cervix, I would just like to know if anybody else has dilated! ^^^
