Depends where you live. Some schools has specific restrictions and depends if your doing public or private school. For my city you don't have to do pre school but by kindergarten you have to be age 5 before starting in September. So pre school would be age 4. But it's public school so doesn't really matter when you register as long as it's before the deadlines they have no choice but to accept you. Private schools are obviously different

This is totally depends on the kid, but most probably the preschools can acknowledge at age 3. But if you want to acknowledge him at more early age in a preschool, then it is also good as the staff arranges the activities according to child's growth and needs. I didn't start looking until earlier this year. My son is 3.5 and in preschool at a private Christian School 2 mornings a week. We're in a pretty small area and it was the only school that accepts 3 year olds, except the ones on base but I didn't feel like competing with all the other military families. In reality, he doesn't even need to be in school yet but I did it so I have more homework time for my online college classes I'm taking

Depends on where you live and desireability of the preschool you want to send them to.

Where I live there are a few centers that have year long waiting lists whereas others have no waiting time at all. I've already started looking and I'm due in April 2015, lol....so it really just depends on you:)

I enrolled my son at 4 weeks old to pre school and primary school because we have a boom of kids born in his year and not many preschools and schools in our town. Because i enrolled so early  he got accepted and has a guaranteed spot

It depends entirely on the kid.  I looked for a preschool when my son was 3, and sent him to one when he was 3 1/2, which was just a little early for him as it turned out.  But a kid who has been in care since age 6 weeks or something like that, might go to preschool by age 3.  Also, some preschools don't accept kids who are still in diapers.
