Help! Feeling nauseous all the time

I am 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant and since two days ago, I am feeling nauseous all the time. I haven't been sick, but am constantly feeling sick, to the extent that I can't do anything else. I am eating small meals throughout the day, but it is so difficult, as just the thought of food or food smell is making me sick. Really feeling down because of this - and it seems ot get worse in the evenings. Is this normal??? Anyone else feeling this way?
I will be going for my first u/s on 22 Dec. Just hope everything is ok in there.

I have a feeling that it is the prenatal vitamins that are perscribed to us when we are pregnant... i was getting ill within an hour after taking them and as soon as i switched to 'flinstones vitamins complete' i immediately stopped feeling ill... try switching to those is you havent already... its what my doctor told me to do and its actually quite common... the flinstone vitamins are practically the same thing you just take 2 a day instead and they work wonders when it comes to not making you sick

So I've had trouble for about 1 year trying to get pregnant. Started charting for the first time and bam, got pregnant. I went to see the MD at 6 weeks and 4 days and saw a tiny sac with a strong heartbeat. It was the most amazing feeling ever! However, almost starting at 6 weeks and now going on the 9th week, i have been experiencing nausea throughout the day and yes worst off in the evening and at night. I too found eating junk food sometimes better for me such as pizza. But along with that I suffered from indigestion badly. I tried walking a little bit and it helped but other than that, people told me it just means you're having a stronger pregnancy. :(( I will let you know hopefully once I reach my 1st trimester if it ever goes away. In the mean time, just know there are plenty of other sufferers out there too.:)

I have been drinking gingerale and that seems to work for me. Unfortunately though, the fizz really makes me feel bloated. Ginger biscuits seem to work though. Not all that keen on ginger, but guess I'll have to tolerate it!

I've had bad nausea for about a week now (I'm at 6 weeks, 3 days) and what I've found works really well is pickled ginger, the kind that comes with sushi.  At last, it works well enough to get me through bacon yesterday, and sushi this evening, and not only not get sick but actually enjoy it.  You can get it in jars at Asian markets.

Thanks ladies
My wait will be over in 3 days...so keeping my fingers crossed. Dani - hope all goes well for you - I am sure you'll be fine. Roke - I know you are right - and I also feel I have been waiting forever! My nausea is getting worse - so I guess that's a good sign as the pregnancy is getting stronger. In a silly way, I am glad I am having symptoms, because if I didn't have any, I would worry! Crazy huh?

The reason they do not really want to do scans before the 7w mark is to make sure that the baby has had time to grow and develop a heart beat.  If you go sooner than 6w there is a chance that you will not see a heart beat and it can cause extra stress on you and the baby.....  I had to wait 1.5 weeks to get my scan and it seemed like it took forever!  But in the end, it is well worth the wait!  Good luck!!

They don't do u/s here that early either and I am self funded as well.  We are self-employed and can't get maternity insurance.  All the dr.s I called schedule the first u/s for 8-10 weeks.  The only reason I got mine was cause I had to go to the ER to find out what was going on!  It is all really so scarey.  I feel so much better just knowing there is a heartbeat...but now I am worried about the future, i just want to get past the NT test that showed there was something wrong last time...I think once I get past that i MAY be able to relax a little...but i doubt it.   Can't wait to hear how your first u/s goes!!

I go for my first u/sound on 22 December, at which stage I will be 7 weeks 1 day pregnant. I don't know why in England they don't scan sooner? Also, I am going totally private for this (self-funded), so don't know why they still don't offer the service - considering I am paying for it....I haven't had achy legs...just the sickness, constipation and exhaustion. Can't wait to see a fluttering heartbeat ;) It will surely put my mind at ease. I got my BFP on 28 November, - 11 days after my egg transfer. Feel nervous though, especially after hearing about what could go wrong...I pray all is well!

It is SO much better getting to see the heartbeat, it made my symptoms seem special now.  I would never have had my u/s done this early if I hadn't have had all these problems, but now i am just so glad I did.  It is hard when we get those BFP's so early (although I tested days before AF) you really don't realize how much longer it makes the whole process.
My nights are terrible, and I am having achey legs?? I don't know if it is just from being so sick or what.  When are you going for your first u/s?

Hi and thanks for your email. I'm really happy for you - that your doc was wrong! How could they get it so wrong?? That's terrible, but you must have been so pleasantly surprised. I am trying not to feel so frustrated and think I will feel much better once I have my first ultrasound and see a heartbeat or two! (fingers crossed). It feels like so long ago that I had my BFP and unfortunately, my clinic said they don't scan before 7 weeks - so you can imagine how my mind has been doing overtime! I have all the symptoms and now just need the reassurance that all is well inside - maybe that's half the frustration...night times are bad for you too? Mine are pretty bad - I wake up feeling really sick, so am not getting a decent night's sleep. Still - will all be worthwhile for an adorable baby :)

Yeah I am with you with the eating bad foods.  I am a very healthy vegetarian and now the ONLY things I seem to be able to eat are so bad for me.  I had pizza for the first time in a year!  They say to avoid fatty foods when you are experiencing morning sickness, and afternoon and evening sickness which is the case for me...but that is all I want.  I sure can't cook anything without wanting to vomit, and when i do what to eat it has to be what I want and NOW.  There is a small window oppurtunity that I can handle eating.  But I will tell you this, after the dr. telling me I had a m/c and finding out he was wrong and seeing the babys heartbeat...I don't care how sick I am, I always seem to have a smile on my face.  I keep fighting getting sick because I know the food is for the baby!
I really hope you can find a way not to be so frustrated with it.  I just want you to be happy during this amazing time. OH and yes, laying in bed through the night is the worst for me...It is mixing with my pre-natels and folic acid and I am pretty convinced throughout the night that I am dying LOL!

Hi
Thanks for your advice. I have felt like crying - out of frustration and helplessness! Today we went shopping and I felt really bad in the supermarket, that we didn't finish all our shopping. The problem is, I'm not able to be sick, just nauseous. If I could be sick, I'd feel better. I have my ultrasound appointment next Monday, so will definitely mention it. In the meantime, will stock up on the gingerale and just bear with it. It's just that it lasts all day, worsening in the evenings....my hubby is being understanding, but I'm beginning to feel guilty for not cooking for him as much.

i am only around 5w right now - but i was JUST like you both in my first pregnancy - especially after 3 or 4 in the afternoon! i pretty much made my husband eat dinner OUT every night b/c the smell of cooking meat make me instantly puke! Mine lasted from 6w to 16w and i really thought i wasn't going to make it (nausea is an INSTANT trigger for me crying for my mom -lol) my husband was supportive but also missing meat.  Anyway...moral of the story - ask you doctor about B6 or B12 or something - he had me start taking some kind of B vitamin that helped a little, and also drinking gingerale.  I know that other women who have really bad sickness actual get a prescription medicine that helps out - so if it's that bad ask you doctor about that - i didn't know about that medicine during my 1st pregnancy.  don't worry - it WILL get better. and in the meantime if you need to - Call you Mom, call your best friend & cry/whine...they'll understand!

OMG - you really have gone through exactly what I am experiencing! Usually I am really health conscious and eat healthy food. But for the past week, I have started eating fries and today out of nowehere, I got my hubby to order pizza! They are the only foods which seem to appeal to me. I am having prenatal vitamins tho (Pregnacare) and managing to eat the odd piece of fruit here or there. Given up on caffeine altogether and instead having plenty of fruit juice. My sick feeling usually gets worse early evenings and on a couple of occasions, I have even woken up in the night, because it has got really bad. Now it seems to last the whole day...
Thanks for your email - it has reassured me. It will all be worthwhile for a cute and healthy baby or two :-) Lucky you - 3 year old daughter!

Hi!  I am 5w5d and have been feeling slighty nauseated.  With my first pregnancy, I had it really bad like you.  Mine was MUCH worse after 3 or 4 in the afternoon and I would almost get depressed when I would smell food because I couldn't eat it. I remember looking at a grilled chicken breast and almost barfing.  I remember having to sit still and move slowly because if I moved too quickly I would want to vomit.  I could not even stand the smell of vanilla or hazelnut candles.  I had to rid my entire house of my favorite candle scents because they nauseated me so bad.  I had a healthy pregnancy and it got so much better by about 9 weeks.  I would eat what I could. There were sometimes the only thing that sounded good was french fries so that's what I would eat!  It seemed like in those nausea days, the only thing that sounded good was junk food so that's what I'd eat.  And I am a very healthy eater 95 percent of the time. But I knew my body was going through major changes and I learned to accept it.  I was so glad when it got better!  It sounds like you are experiencing the EXACT same thing as I did with my now three year old daughter!  I know it's a bummer.  Just eat what you can, when you can.  The baby will get all the nutrition he/she needs from you.  It will really be fine!
