Do you sleep on your sides or back?

I am so tired that every night I just conk off and in my sleep I cannot conciously make myself sleep on my left (which I read supplies the most oxygen and blood to the baby). Sometimes when I wake up in the morning I find myself on my back which I read some where its no good as youmight pop a vessel but hello? How does one control your body when you are in deep sleep?
Anyone having this same problem as me ie. going into deep sleep and not knowing what position you are sleeping on? if so what did you do to make sure you kept yourself on your sides esp the left?

I actually bought a pregnancy pillow to help sleep more comfortably. There are lots of different ones out there, but they basically allow you to sleep in a more comfortable position with one big pillow. The one I got is basically a c-shaped body pillow made by the Boppy company. I like it because I like relatively flat pillows in general - not overstuffed - and this one is like that. If you like fatter pillows, though, they are available as pregnancy pillows, too. Or you could just get a long body pillow - my friend swore by that during her pregnancy. I really haven't bought too many things for pregnancy, but this is one that I think was really worth the money. Sweet dreams, everyone!

When my blood pressure got high, they reccomended I try to only sleep on my left side. That's the only thing I've ever been told. But, just lately I have trouble sleeping on my back. Sometimes I have trouble catching my breath, and sometimes I feel like my heart is beating so hard that it's going to explode. So, I only sleep on my sides now.

Hey, I am really on the July Board, but I couldn't help but lurk :D

My doctor told me that it does not hurt the baby to sleep on your back and that the only time they make you sleep on your left side is when you have a heart condition.  I am in my 30th week and still sleeping on my back so just do what you can to get some sleep!

I heard after 20 weeks your not suppose to sleep on your back. I have tried and tried but always wake up on my back. I try and sleep on my left side but I also have hip problems and if I lay on my hip to long it gets painful.  I don't know what I'm going to do when I get bigger.

I start off on my left side and always end up on my back or half right side/half stomach lol. Since being pregnant i can't sleep at all, i toss and turn a lot due to worrying on if i'm hurting the baby or not.

I'm a back sleeper too. I'm always finding myself on my back. There's no room for a pillow, so I can't use one. The BF likes hogging the bed :/ That's ok I steal the covers.. lol

Sleeping on your back does restrict blood flow, but not enough to harm the baby. I don't worry about it too much. When you get really huge it gets uncomfy anyways to sleep so I'm sure i'll be tossing and turning a lot...

I start out on my left side but throughout the night I switch from left to right and back and forth because my hips hurt so bad. With my previous pregnancy when I would turn over at night my hips would pop and I would be in tears almost from the pain. That same sort of thing is happening htis time too but to avoid the popping I turn slowly stopping on my back and at times I fall back to sleep during the transition. But as soon as i realize what I am doing I go on my left side just to make up for the time I was on my back. I find sleeping with a pillow behind my back and between my legs is most comfortable and keeps my spine more in line so I don't have back or hip pain.

Well I tried to sleep on my left side but funny enough I always wake up on my back. I don't think anyone can really control how they sleep I used a pillow and yet still it don't work my child's life is in God's hands so no matter how I sleep my baby will be ok, I don't worry too much about it.

After 16 weeks you should be sleeping on your side. There are a major blood vessels and the weight of the uterus can lead to poor circulation to the baby. If you put a pillow behind you you will stop yourself from lying flat on your back. Towards the end of my previous pregnancy I found I was more comfortable in a reclining chair where you are not lying flat.

I have always been a side sleeper, but more my right side than my left.  But, I do lay on my back for a long time before I fall asleep with my head propped up, and sometimes I do wake up on my back.   I read and feel the baby kick he seems to be most active around bed time.  I am going to have a night owl on my hands haha.  I think just as long as you can breathe OK it shouldn't be a problem.

I sleep however I feel comfortable. Sometimes it's on my back, sometimes on my side but I really miss sleeping on my stomach. I usually wake up on my right side.
