I live 2 1/2 hours from the hospital!

I live in Yosemite National park, and live 2.5 hours away from my hospital. Originally, I was sure that I'd have enough time to get to the hospital - this is my second child, so I'm not worried about "knowing" if it's time. I'm feeling nervous no, though - what if this is a really fast labor?

Along the way, we not only have an excellent medical clinic here, but there are multiple hospitals/emergency/urgent care clinics along the way, so no worries there if anything seems to be going wrong. Also, many women have told me that my body will "know" I can't have the baby along the way, labor might slow down during travel.

Am I playing too risky of a game by not moving down to the city before my due date? Or should I be fine, knowing that we will start our traveling as soon as it feels like the real deal?

You never know, but I think you will be fine.  I'd be a lot more concerned if you didn't have all those medical facilities along the way.  I'm kind of surprised the doc doesn't want to induce you with that kind of distance but I think all will be fine.  I don't agree w/ you body knowing not to have the baby.  I have heard my share of women practically having a baby in the back of a car.  Heck, it happened to my mom with my brother and she was only 30 minutes from the nearest hospital, but there was no where else to stop on the way, so again, you should be fine.

I personally think that you will be fine and if you have to stop at any of those other hospitals/emergency clinics then you can.  I don't think that your labor is going to go so fast that in 2 1/2 hours you will have the baby.
