Unexpected Labour Story

It was quite the experience, and not at all what we had planned, but on August 21st our son made his way into the world. We named him Noah Vincent Vital Gauthier.

The labour experience was a nightmare unfortunately. I was 2 days overdue and about to go for a pedicure with my Mom when an extreme pain, like a knife, hit me in my lower abdomen. The pain was hard, constant, and drove me to throw up. My mom insisted it was late labour but I knew otherwise, as I had already had false labour a few times. I knew it wasn't contractions. I called my midwife through tears and she met us at my house. Shortly after we decided to go to the hospital and get looked at.

My boyfriend came from work and we got there around 4 pm. 3 hours of fetal monitoring and excruciating pain that brought me to screams and they concluded I had a kidney stone. They set me up on morphine in a private room to allow the stone to pass. Shortly after a nurse came by and said "Wow, well if you can handle a kidney stone then labour will be a breeze for you whenever baby decides to come!" Lo and behold, within the hour my mucous plug was lost and my water broke as I threw up. Contractions started and I went into labour overnight, while passing a kidney stone. I had to stay on narcotics just to manage the pain from the stone alone, and I was screaming in agony. My partner was amazing the whole time, helping me manage the pain as b b sr I cab and to refuse the epidural. I walked into my labour already exhausted, but delivered Noah vaginally 22 hours later with 4 hours of pushing. He was born unresponsive at first, but BT the time NICU arrived (less than a minute later) he was breathing on his own. And he is beautiful. My midwife said she has never watched a woman go through both a kidney stone and labour all at once. But as hard as it was for both me and my partner, we couldn't be happier with our Angel. He is safe, healthy and such a blessing. Although I feel a little robbed of the natural waterbirth we wished for, I know that next time I will be able to handle anything.
Good luck to all the August Mommies and early September Mommies!

Holy sh*t Mama, well done! That must have been excruciating my goodness. I hope you are recovering well and that you never have to deal with a labor like that again.
